Good In The Snow

We had about 100mm of snow around here. Enough to stop most cars but the RAV was incredible. I tried quite hard to get it stuck but it just wouldn't - forward or backwards, up and down hill. It remains to be seen how it will be in deeper snow but so far so good.

Anyone else tried it?

Regards

years ago not long after I bought my RAV in '94, there was heavy snow - so deep that no-one went to work. With the diff locked I had the time of my life and ended up ferrying folk back and forward to shops.... that was in Glasgow. I am looking forward to going over to Italy to try it out...

With this sort of weather it depends on what extremes of weather you have and what sort/state of tyres you have fitted. I did a 80mph run to Perth, scotland just a few days ago when there was major flooding. In the 60 mile drive, I aquaplaned 8 times - nae bother as no-on else was near me but all 4 tyres were brand new tread depth !! Drive slower - why.... will try different winter tyres next !!!! :P

No snow here yet but did get out and do a bit of greenlaning over the weekend. The Rav copes supprisingly well. Got some odd looks from a group on top of the mountain in their skid plated and winch equipped discoverys. The standard tyres are great on road but not much help off. They appear to be a bit of an odd size. When i looked on the net not many manufactures seem to do 225/65/17. 235/65/17 is a lot more popular and gives a much wider choice. Rich.

Ironically, despite living in NE Scotland where we usually get the snow, we seem to have escaped it so far, so I've no idea how my Rav4 will compare to my previous Freelander (which was a star).

I did do a bit of extreme greenlaning and, well, see here  At least I know what it's like on ice (and learned not to rely on the ice warning)!

Have not been on snow as yet but have driven lots of miles on forrestry tracks throughout Scotland before and after use by 100 or so rally cars, my D4D XTR handles this very well and feel I have confidence in vehicle when pushing quite quickly on loose gravel, rough areas and where forrestry have been logging, some mud. I will be at Snowman Rally in Inverness Feb.17th and Granite City Rally Aberdeen April 28th so might have some snow experience yet.

From memory those tyres are much wider than standard (so much so the standard hard wheel cover will not fit) which will have an adverse affect.
