Has The Rav4 Got A Low Screenwash Warning?

Because I ran ran out of screenwash in my 2006 T180 on the way home from work, and was suprised I didn't get a warning. I know I should check it regularly, especially at this time of the year, but I would have expected a warning on a £27K car. I know I could look in the manual, but I'm lazy!!

(Oh, that !Removed! ice alert warning was annoying me again, too!!)

I know what you mean about the ICE warning, perhaps it can be re wired to tell you if your screen wash is low. You dont need the ice warning on my XT4 because i haven't got heated leather seats you know when its cold .

I'd rather have VD with a touch of leprosy.

There is no malfunction it just doesn't exist.

Malfunction bit is the most used - LR knows its own way back to dealers.

If they had the build quality of the Jap & German stuff, they would give anything a run for the money, but they never have had and I bet never will :(

Not all land Rovers are bad. I ran a Freelander for over four years and 80,000 miles and it never let me down. You're less likely to get problems with a Rav4 but there's no guarantee - as owners here will attest.

If my XT4 does as well I'll be more than satisfied. Purchase cost, servicing and consumables look like they'll cost more for the Rav4 but better fuel consumption and residual value should compensate.

I know which I would rather do a long trip in, but you can have 2 new 07 rav4 for what the Disco3 costs.

Could be perfect - kids in completely different car lol

Guy's, can I add my 2p's worth on LR.

Having had a couple of freelanders in the past, the last of which was a V6, fun car but had a thirst

like a condemmed groom to be on his stag party. The worst thing about the freelander was not

the feeling I got sitting in Poole harbour having got off a channel island ferry and about to drive

to Glasgow wondering what the funny noise coming from auto gearbox was. The worst thing I

found about owning a freelander was standing in dealer service dept handing over £400 for a

service watching the smug b****** standing next to me handing over the same amount for the

service on his £60 K Range Rover.

Don't get me started I despise the blasted things. They were bad when they were Rover and then they got taken over by the next worse thing - Ford.

And for all those that will tell you they last for years, anything will if you keep rebuilding it.

Looks like JCB (Yes the yellow digger people) may be buying LR, but they don't want to take the xs baggage of Jaguar...

New Freelander 2 is built by Volvo (another Ford badge) build quality is much better than the Disco...

Optional Extras... Front bull bars and Bucket scoop.... Rear Swing arm.... Nifty Swivel drivers seat....Hard Hat and Digger Bear... ;) ;)

The nwe Freelander seems to be the current darling of the motoring press who when rating it seem to ignore those who bought the last model and ended up s creek. If you want to see really bad customer service and unreliability take a look at .

And then think yourselves thankfull you bought a Rav.

Hi all, I know Ive allready had my 2p's worth on this thread but hey I'm enjoying it.

Freelanders again, well speaking from experiance if you buy a Rav 4 and view this

forum you will probably be 99% happy with your choice.

Buy a freelander or two (like I did in the past) click onto freelander forum and like

me at time you will be bloody terrified.

Failed head gaskets, failed intermediate reduction drives (IRD), failed viscous coupling,

Austin montego switchgear, growing mushrooms in boot (the tailgate windows leak on all)

Rear tyres that turn into the shape of ten bob bits, whines clunks and strange noises comong

from drivetrain.......................

Ok I'll stop now but hey lifes too short to be bitter.

Hey driven loads of Land Rovers but theses where dropped from the back of planes or hanging from the belly of a helicopter ;) ;) ;) if one failed just left it and found another......

But you can still be smug when you pass the poor sod at the side of the road in your RAV with the bonnet up of the Freelander wondering how much this time....this forum is getting better and better...

Sure I am about to get shot down for this......

But......

Have you looked at this forum, loads and loads of problems from leaking foot wells to knocking engines...

Nearly every post is another problem / whinge.

So, if Toyota's are so reliable (which the motoring surveys suggest they are) why so many problems?

Lee,

Your right that we shouldn't be totally negative. However i don't believe that we should be blind to problems either. Toyota or other owners need to be aware of faults / shortcomings. For years owners and the motoring press have critisised the half opening rear door. I've bought two Ravs well aware of this issue. I've cured this problem with a £50 new check strap. It's £50 i would rather have not spent but its made my life easier with the pushchair putting it in the boot. I note the new special edition Rav XTR has a fully opening door. Coincidence or are Toyota starting to listen to their customers. I hope the new model proves as reliable as the older ones, but as my previous link to the headgasket for freelanders site shows, owners won't put up and shouldn't have to put up with poor customer service especially after spending thousands on a product.

(hope that wasn't too shooting down) Rich.

No, I agree totally with your post, where would we be with everything from mobile phones to cars without news groups to share tips and experiences with.

We all know too well that most companies are only interested in getting us to buy their products and fall way below expectation when it comes to support.

I am certain Toyota have people employed to read this group and I would like to think that they use our comments constructively.

Regarding reliability bring on the "lemon law" for all products - quality will have to improve.

PS Thanks for not shouting :)

I was concerned when I got my RAV about a gearbox noise. Toyota said don't worry and went some way to surpress the noise. The dealer (RRG Macclesfield) and Toyota bent over backwards to make sure I was happy and I have to say that it has never got any worse - it seems characteristic.

I was also not happy about NCAP being very vague about the test result for the new RAV. After reading my concerns on this forum, somebody from Toyota has tried very hard to reassure me.

Now lets put things into perspective. I have been in the motor trade a very long time and I know of many, many tales of discontented motorists with all makes of vehicle. Astonishing tales of utter rudeness and incompetence that have led to legal battles and all sorts of nonsense.

However, while there are tales on this forum of unusual faults, it seems that Toyota do seem to care and will persevere until the cutomer is happy, even in extreme cases where the customer gets his money back.

Whatever I read on these pages, I am still extremely happy with Toyota and love driving the car. But as much as anything, I feel more confident with it than I would with any Merc, BMW or like.

I think that confidence is important.

PS - Good idea chatman, drop Land Rovers out of planes, not for transport, as bombs. However this kind of clusterbomb would disperse before it hit the ground
