Another wheel question - mabe we should have this a sa full section lol just kidding

Here it is - im thining about getitng alloys and the ride dropped 30mm but should i get 17s or 18s i hear that bigger alloys can make the ride more bumpier - quote me wrong lol i dont mind just needing the experts opinions :-) much apreciated

go ahead with the drop, especially if you're using TTE springs which i found to be very good and improved both looks and handling....

however regards wheels, in my opinion you shouldn't go beyond 17"s, as to be honest the ride is much 'bumpier' with 17"s, let alone with 18"s! with my 17"s on, i have to drive much more careful than i used to before.

don't get me wrong, i don't regret changing the wheels, but as a daily driver, 18"s would be annoying..... hope that helps

I also posted this question (although I did it in the main rolla section) and no one recommended going the 18" route. With regards to your question about larger alloys being bumpier, the theory goes that in order to keep the overall size of the wheel as close to normal as possible you need to get a much lower profile tyre for the larger alloy.

There don't seem to be any logistics problems with 18s, and as most "normal" E12 owners jump from 15" to 17" wheels, I don't see the hardship (apart from hurting the wallet a lot more) in a CTS owner going from 16" to 18"
