2nd gear: 18.6mi/30km

3rd gear: 31mi/50km

4th gear: 49.7mi/80km (maybe a little sooner)

5th gear: 68mi/110km

Does this sound correct to you?

Am I getting this right, are you moving from 4th to 5th around the 68mph mark, if so your mpg will be lower, I tend to drive in the highest gear possible for the type of driving, generally I can hit 4th at 31mph and to maintain speed I hardly need to touch the accelerator

mine..

2nd very soon after I start moving

3rd at 25mph

4th at 35mph

5th at 45mph

OOps :driving:

2nd @ 20mph

3rd @ 30-35mph depending on traffic conditions

4th @ 50mph

Need I go on, thats why I get rap fuel consumption. :fear:

So... if you go into 5th at around 45mi (72km), this means you're left with the fifth for a whopping 100km of speed potential? What does this do to the engine (apart from obviously lowering consumption)? I know that it's not really good to shift gears either early or late...

And more generally, what RPM are you targetting at? I'm trying not to go over 3k RPM, which I find feasible with my shifting habits...

ref slipstreaming: Ive found that it is still effective (varified by scangauge) at a safe distance when following the very tall (double decker size) lorries/coaches and at a min speed of 60mph

safe distance being min of 2 seconds from the back of it

Normally changing gear between 3500-6000 rpm

Where do you get the max torque for the non-petrol model? I know it's around 3500rpm for the petrol one, but can't find any other data...

2nd 20mph+

3rd 30+

4th 40+

5th 50+

Haven't had any engine problems and am getting 57 or so on combined driving.

Yes, but... isn't it supposed to be the most economical when you drive at max torque? The way I understand it with lower rpm (that is, with a high gear ratio) the car computer actually sends more fuel to compensate for the underperformance... (of course, only when you're lower than the max efficiency point). So...?

hello,

I've not taken delivery of my Aygo+ yet (its a motability car).

One of the reasons I chose the Aygo is because of the fuel consumption, I need as much mpg as I can possibly get due to my needing to travel upcountry (some 250 miles) to see my 'olds'.

the one I am having is the semi automatic, and I plan to do about 50 - 60 mph on the motorway.

I wonder how many MPG's I will get then? after reading your posts the 60+ mpg I was told seem to be a high to actual experience.

Max torque for the non-petrol (I also have trouble spelling diesel) is 130Nm at 1750rpm, compared with 97Nm at 3500rpm

You are very lucky because the citroen website has since deleted pictures and graphs of the 1.4l HDI diesel engine, but I have a picture stored on my phone

The engine is also known as DV4 TED (peugeot citroen) or DLD-414 (Ford)

Thanks for the image, I appreciate it.... but this is for some 1.4l engine???

Yes, the Aygo was available as 1 litre petrol or 1.4 litre diesel

Got about 530 km on last fill of petrol, which equated to 49 mpg. 12 mile trip into work which involves alot of stop start driving. The return journey isn't as bad as the traffic is alot lighter. Looking forward to bringing it on a long journey to see what it can do.

I posted after a few weeks of owning my Aygo that I was getting high 30s to low 40s mpg. I was told as the engine loosened up that the mpg would improve. The sort of mileage I was doing was mainly 40, 50 and 60 mph roads, with few stops and ideal for racking up some impressive mpgs!

I've now got just short of 4,000 miles on the clock, I did a check of the mpg today and found that I averaged 53.5mpg. The good news is it's better, but not exceptional. Has anyone seen the full results of the BBC challenge yet? This pits 80 cars against each other to determine the most economical? The winning model up to now is the Yaris diesel.

Well I've put about 1500 miles on my Aygo now and my fuel spreadsheet is reporting around 57MPG :)

Some weeks when I don't have any trips to make other than work* and a shopping run I'm getting away with about £7 of petrol a week :D

Not bothering checking at present, need the right foot amputated to get a reasonable result, also need the Blitz filter changed back to a std one. :driving:

My Aygo (Petrol) is "old" 1700km.

Now i'm 54,2 mpg, that's 5,2l per 100km. With 95% city driving, occasionally w/AC, but with a lotta coasting (driving in neutral). Not pushin'it at all (changing gear at 2500-3000rpm max).

Posted
but with a lotta coasting (driving in neutral).

You'll use more fuel coasting in neutral as the engine is fed fuel to stop the engine stalling, coast in gear as the engine won't need fuel and the wheels turn the engine stopping it from stalling

Does it matter what gear you're in for coasting? I sometimes change down to use engine braking if I'm coming up to a set of lights or a junction etc

If I just left it in 4th or whatever would that be as good? Then change and rev-match when I'm ready to go?

Posted

Driving in neutral also means the vehicle is less in control than it should be as it changes the balance of the car.

Posted

IMHO you SHOULD downshift to a proper gear when engine braking, as that is

the only way you can accelerate instantly if you need to do so for any reason.

If you slow down to 20mph in 4th and you need to speed up there won't be

enough oomph to do so and changing geras then will probebly be too late.

So you should allways go down through the gears when braking

on the engine, thus keeping optimal control over your car...

Oh, wait, my mistake. Where I come from the 'petrol' is actually 'diesel' :D So I'm talking about the 1.0 petrol engine. Would you happen to have something similar for that one?

Thanks again - and apologies for the confusion...

As a sidenote, I started driving like a granny and shifting gears at 2K rpm max...

Posted

As an update to my previous post, I have averaged 57.895 MPG over the 10 (full) tanks of petrol I have used since I had my car from new. Not quite up to brochure, but I'm very pleased overall, apart from the dreadful tyre noise!
