Mine is dropping, tho I've been wellying it and needed the aircon on constantly to stop the interior misting up (*see other post as to footwell paddling pools!)

Filled up yesterday and going to 'nurse' this tankful to see what happens to mpg

Thanks for the image, I appreciate it.... but this is for some 1.4l engine???

Yes, the Aygo was available as 1 litre petrol or 1.4 litre diesel

Oh, wait, my mistake. Where I come from the 'petrol' is actually 'diesel' :D So I'm talking about the 1.0 petrol engine. Would you happen to have something similar for that one?

Here it is

http://www.rri.se/popup/performancegraphs....mp;ChartsID=237

You can even download it to PDF from the window tabs

You're welcome :)

Oh, wow. Thanks tons for this link.

So... this means that the most effective point is at 3620rpm? I'm really all confused from all the different advice...

Posted

402 miles (mostly on fast country roads, not being terribly careful on the granny-driving efficiency) on 33.05 litres of petrol...55.2 mpg! I assumed 50mpg when deciding if this was going to be a sound economic choice over my old civic, so very pleased! (Bit concerned that I could fit 33.05 litres in when still within the last but one fuel bar - how far off calling the RAC was I???)

Posted

Just filled up and used 22 litres 247 miles so 50+mpg @100.9 per litre (esso)

Posted

last fill-up produced 55.5mpg over 300 miles of country roads. Then 200 miles at only 45mpg driving too fast on motorways with 2 adults and 2 children. Have to pull out the granny-driving handbook, methinks

I filled up my Aygo on Sunday (only picked it up Saturday).

I filled it up again last night after 389.3 miles. She took 31.15 litres @ 92.9p/l = £28.94

Which works out as 56.81MPG, well let's call it 57MPG :P

Happy with that ! I'd like to get over 60 though! :D

Filled up again last night

428.9 miles

33.19 litre used

92.9ppl

7.19 ppm

20.29 Km/l

4.81 l/100Km

58.75 MPG

Woooooo

OK I must be doing something wrong here :

700miles on the clock and my mpg is hovering around 45.

I put the rev counter in it to stop me driving it like I ride the bike and it's made things worse! The last fill up was 44.83mpg, and I'm now driving like an old person out on a Sunday drive.

I'm trying to keep the revs between 2-3k rpm (even though I love the sound the engine makes at 3.5k) and taking it easy, not speeding, no aircon etc. I might try shifting the rev range up 500-750 rpm and see if that makes any difference. On the bike I'll get 44-48mpg no matter how fast/slow I drive.

I haven't got a tacho, so I can't really say what revs I change at. I just accelerate slowly and change when I can hear the revs getting louder. I keep it in 5th as much as possible, but always change down rather than labour the engine! (i.e gentle uphills, or if forced to slow down by traffic).

General fuel economy stuff really.

I should point out though, my daily drive consists of 20 miles of motorway, and 20 miles of 60MPH A-road and about 5 miles at 40MPH. There's a couple of bit of standing traffic on the way, but generally, most of my drive is extra urban. If you're doing more slowing down and accelerating, then that will mean less MPG.

I'm basically a motorway cruiser so get fairly good MPG.

I still want over 60 though

There's a saying "People buy power, but they drive torque"

Max torque is 3600 rpm, which in theory is where you get the most force generated per revolution. I think 2500-3800 seems economic. Driving at closer to max torque means your right foot can remain lighter. When its time to accelerate, just accelerate and dont spend forever getting to cruising speed/gear. Rev high and u increases heat losses, rev low and you dont squeeze enough torque out. Note, the Aygos torsional bottom engine mount suppresses vibration so well that its not easy to tell where labouring begins.

No kidding! I have to turn my radio off to hear the engine!

Latest figures in from last nights top up :

372.2 miles

28.66 litre used

90.9ppl

7.00 ppm

20.9 Km/l

4.78 l/100Km

59.04 MPG

Nearly got to 60MPG ! I thought I'd done worse this week, I had a few more overtaking moments than before, and cruised at 70MPG a couple of times. Must keep under 60 for those savings!

I'm getting 4.5 l/100km on my petrol Aygo.

Not especially economic driving, but I'm still pleased :-)

That's 62.8 MPG ! Very impessive!

If I can get as good, I'll be very happy!

I have gotten it down to 3,9 l/100km, but that must have been special circumstances :-P

But why are so many struggling to get good mpg?

Even here in Norway with hills up and down, seriously variable speed limits and bad roads, I have no problems getting below 5 l/100km.

still hovering around 49!

I'm not sure! I think some people are driving their cars too hard. I also think that UK fuel is pretty bad (especially from supermarket pumps). If some people are struggling, it might be worth their while trying some super unleaded?

So, I started driving in a way as conservative as possible, as people suggested, switching gears as soon as possible (2nd @ 10KMH, 3rd @ 30KMH, 4th @ 50-55KMH). All I have to say: useless.

I got bored soooo much during this past month, and all I got was a less than 1% economy over my old driving habits (2nd @ 30KMH, 3rd @ 50-55KMH, 4th @ 80-85KMH).

Still way too much fuel burning. And Totota are saying "oh, but we tested it, and it looks ok". I'm desparate, really. And I think I'm never buying a Toyota again...

This is pretty serious problem, because it compromise the primary goal of this car - economics.

On this fourum, i have spoted another user having the same problem (zlatkok). He's from my country.

I think that he has Aygo Black, just like you. And guess what, the dealership in your country is the same company that own Toyota dealership here in Macedonia. Maybe both of your cars are "made in the same Friday (or Monday)".

I have bought my Aygo from them, and do not have such problem (5,2-6 l per 100km, hard dense urban driving, but with lotta coasting, must admit). People here are generally very satisfied by Toyota dealership, that's why i choose them instead of 107 or c1. And i am satisfied too (by their service). But it really bothers me and it's very disappointing to hear that they cannot solve such flagrant problem as yours is.

Hello mate,

Thanks for your feedback. Indeed, that's why you buy this car - easy parking and economic use!

I don't think the dealership (I gues syou mean the official country dealer) has got anything to do with it, really (unless, indeed, they got a very small batch of defective cars or they do something to them :D ), but the after sales support has been abyssmal. And, indeed, that's why I chose to pay more for a Toyota instead of a C1 or a 107, for support!!!

Really, really disappointing. I hope I get some news from them soon...

Is anyone around with the technical knowledge who could maybe offer some help with it? I mean, how come the tests come out clean yet real-life experience is such as it is?

Cheers

Themis

Hi,

as W0Wtcg mentioned, I have the same problem with my Aygo. My consumption is even worse then yours, I put 9.5l/100km. Firs time I complained, the dealer asked me for the fueling tickets to see how much I put in. After that the dealer changed the device that makes the fuel and air mixture (O2-sensor or whatever), but as in your case that didn't do s***. I'm furious. :censor: My first service is coming soon and I'm gonna demand they fix my problem. I'll mention the catalisator changing option and see what happens.

Thanks for the informations.

Bye.

The Catalytic Convertor should not be of any influence on economy, as it is an emissions device.

The Lambda probes however DOE heve influence on economy, as their signal is interpreted by the ECU

and this ECU partially bases its decision for the amount of fuel to inject on the data it gets from these sensors...

Well, bear in mind that I had my lambda sensor changed and consumption fell to normal levels, but only for a very short while, so there's certainly something fishy there...

I've taken the issue up with Toyota Greece themselves and I'm waiting for a contact... Gonna chase it, really.
