I still get between high 40's and mid 50's. My biggest problem is keeping below 70mph. On the motorway I find myself keeping up with traffic at 80mph. This is the reason why I seem to average no better than 55mpg. Still, can't complain. By the way I've now hit 20,000 miles.

Well, bear in mind that I had my lambda sensor changed and consumption fell to normal levels, but only for a very short while, so there's certainly something fishy there...

I've taken the issue up with Toyota Greece themselves and I'm waiting for a contact... Gonna chase it, really.

If you get it fixed, please post what they did.

Thanks

Of course I will, don't worry. Right now I've reported the problem to Toyota Greece themselves; they didn't sound terribly helpful, but I'm waiting for them to contact the dealership that hasn't solved my problem. Next step: take it to one of the service shops of Toyota themselves.

Father bought an Aygo+ with MMT in October 2006.

The only MMT with air conned car Toyota in stock was a dark grey (we wanted that light ice blue) one otherwise we would have to wait 16 weeks. This commanded a very decent discount.

Anyways MPG..... I get between 54-58 MPG.

I absolutely love the car - sometimes I prefer driving it over my own Yaris (which I decided to buy after I went with my senior to the dealership to order the Aygo).

My only gripe is the lack of power especially in the motorway but then again it is a city car afterall. Folks bought this car using their Yaris (04 T spirit 1.0 MMT and the extra cylinder provided bags more pace) as PX.

The most rational car I have ever had the pleasure to drive. Air con, CD player, 5 doors - comfortable minimalist motoring with sensible running costs.

Mine does 20 - 26mpg :)

That includes a 50 mile round trip with 2 passengers, and a 70MPH commute (was running late)

Had a bit more heavy footed action this week, so not sure what my next tank will be either!

Are you sure about this number (20 -26 mpg)? That is 9.5-11 L/100km. That is too much for this car. I'm having the same fuel consumption and is not good.

Hi All! Just to say hello and contribute to the thread. I have a 1.0 petrol.

I've just got 50mpg doing mainly motorway driving. I only had a couple of trips around town. I drive 47miles (23.5 each way) on the motorway each day.

I've been trying to nanny the car, never going above 70 and usually cruising at 65 all the way. I was expecting a bit more out of it than 50mpg. Can anyone suggest a few driving tips? What gear to be in at what speed, any ways of saving fuel?

I dont carry any extra unnecessary weight, and I have driven a few of these eco cars which tell you when to change gear etc, so thought that applying these principles would help get the MPG figure up.

I've got about 59mpg on average over the last 41000 miles.

All I can suggest is pretty much the usual:

  • Check tyre pressures.
  • Gentle on accelerator.
  • Change up at 2000-2500 rpm if pottering about town etc. (higher for accelerating onto motorways etc otherwise you'll end up in 5th at 40mph with no more acceleration).
  • Look ahead at the traffic and allow the car to slow down from a distance with foot off the accelerator if the lights up ahead are red, then change into 2nd and drive on with the flow of traffic as the light changes (if you time it well!)
  • 60mph max for really really economical runs (did 72mpg on a tank on A-roads in Wales, 40-50mph).

Hope that's some help.

Jonathan.

dcworld - how new is your car? Mine took a few thousand miles to get reasonable MPG figures. I'm not sure whether that was down to me adjusting driving style (coming from Civic Type R) or the engine wearing-in.

See my sig - although that's only based on one fuel fill-up so not exact for the life of the car....

I guestimated 45mpg so if I can reach that after a few more fill-ups I'll be happy - too much stop-start traffic to be any better than that! :(

jdavtz - its an 06 plate with 13k miles on the clock. Only really properly been driving it 2wks and this is the first fillup that i've been able to get an accurate mileage from. I ought to keep on top of the tyre pressures too.

Do things like lights being on, heater on full and heated rear window being on reduce the MPG?

Yes they do. They al use power and this power has to come from somewhere.

You might think the power comes from the Battery, but that is not true; the Battery

only actually supplies power when the alternator can't keep up with demand.

So at idle or with the engine shut down all electrics run off of the Battery untill you start the car,

then the alternator supplies power, which it gets from the engine. And if the battery is low that

consumes power too, as the alternator has to supply current to charge the battery...

Just to agree with Jan, I used to have a car with too many high power lights on the front, if I switched them all on at tickover it would almost stall the car but driving at night was great.

Back on Subject

Done 1000 miles and mpg still not good : 47, 36, 45, 43.

Might need to get a dealer to look at it.

Hopefully mine will get better now. just checked the tyres, front left = 37psi, front right 26, rear left 31, rear right 26. Hopefully that helps on the next tankful!!

Em, your sig's wrong!

When you copy the code for the banner there's a drop down menu at the top where you can select UK MPG ;)

Yep...that will bring it in line with my consumption........Not bad for a six year old Roadster ;)

Well first time I had the GF's Aygo on a long run to do some MPG calculations. I am generally a very economical driver and the trip covered 230 miles of which 95% is motorway/fast A roads and 5% of London city driving. Managed a grand total of 50MPG. Not the best and was expecting abit higher than that from a 1.0L but still pretty good.

I have to say the Aygo is a great city car as it was designed for but after many motorway miles later I am shattered from driving it. It is much harder work than driving a large engine saloon car on the motorway. It is much more involving keeping the speed at 70mph and as soon as a hill comes along the speed quickly drops towards 60mph and you are on the accelerator trying to get it back to 70mph very slowly. Surely this can't be good for MPG?

sky-

Driving at 70mph will cut you mpg to between 50-55, also your driving style in the city will have an effect on the mpg. Alot is getting the driving to a fine art, reading the road well ahead, keeping the number of times you come to a complete stop as low as possible, using the engine to slow you down instead of the brakes
