One thing to watch out for if you are using an online converter to go from liters to gallons is that it uses Imperial gallons and not US ones or you'll end up with quite low figures.

I used the method ... distance travelled on trip divided by litres put in times 4.54 ...

My last two tanks have been 41 & 43 ... Seeing as i'm going to be doing more A road driving , i'm hoping that this will increase

Done just over 3000 miles now & my last tank gave me 62mpg (& that's filling to the brim). Mainly A/B roads usually 30 - 60 miles at a time (only used for leisure). Even had the a/c on quite a bit last time as well. Am moving up the gears quickly & coasting in gear whenever possible. Just doing all the things they reccommend to save fuel & it's working. Was keeping to 60mph max most of the time which helps a lot. Very happy bunny.

Use the same formula as Smithy.

Everytime my wife uses it I groan as my mpg descreases significantly. :( I think she revs to about 3500-4000 in every gear and probably forgets 5th some of the time. I'll have to go out with her and see how she drives it.

Hi guys,

We get about 55mpg, compared to the 17mpg i get from my saab its fantastic. Enough said really lol.

Since i bought my aygo i have done an average of 5.52l/100km (42.61MPG). That's in Sweden with alot of snow and rain and with a total of 13 fill ups.

my last tank was 41.48MPG

My last tank was about 45mph. When I got it a month ago I drove it home on the motorway I got 72mph. A lot of my driving is delivering with A/C on.

Hello guys,

Several pages ago in this thread I was complaining about my rates (even around 30mpg, if my calculations are correct). Someone had suggested, and I did have them try it, to change the O2 sensor. When they did, consumption fell down to 51mpg - but only for one fuelling, then it shot right up again.

Several fuelings later, today I went to the dealer again, armed with patience and statistics to prove this is not normal (at the time the official Toyota reply was: your mpg is within the acceptable limits). I spoke to the arch-mechanic, and guess what:

He told me that there's a Toyota announcement out that he had seen by chance that said something about defective catalysts. He took a look at my car, saw when it was made (bought 2007.01) and muttered "yup, it's in the window".

So now it's sitting at the garage having a handful of stuff changed - more details when I see the service list.

But now you know - I haven't seen it being mentioned somewhere else, and there are defective catalysts out there...

Interesting story. Good luck. If it does work I wonder if you will be entitled for a refund for the extra petrol used?

Haha! Indeed, as I was leaving the dealership I was calculating in my head: about 17500kms, that would make 175 100's of kms, an extra of 2L/100Kms would make about 350L extra. At a rate of about €1,2 it's a hefty €420... Sucks, doesn't it??

By the way, he also told me that he has already changed another two or three catalysts, one without mentioning it to the owner (a friend of his), who said by herself that she saw a great difference in consumption... So there might be something to it.

Cheers

Have just used my first tankful in my Aygo, had approx 8700 miles on the odometer when I got it, so has got a few miles under it's belt.

Mainly been driving to work and back via A and B roads approx 16 miles a day round trip, I used 29.5 litres and the trip meter said 390 miles which gave me 60mpg, I have used the A/C several times in the last couple of weeks so I am very impressed, I have even overtaken a couple of back road dawdlers so it has seen 60ish mph in 2nd gear a couple of times as well.

Am off to Cornwall tomorrow so will be interested to what a prolonged drive can achieve

I've just had my best economy (58.5mpg) straight after one of my worst (49.5mpg). Don't know what the hells going on I usually get around 53-54 mpg. (The 58.5 mpg tank came from filling up at morrisons which I don't usually do)

Got my little Aygo back from the garage last evening. They didn't change the catalyst after all, but the, um, have no idea how to say it in english, the part that takes the fumes from the engine and leads them to the exhaust system? Before the catalyst?

I wonder if they should have also changed the O2 sensor, since when they had done it it had shown big improvement. Anyhow, will update when I have used up the current fuelling.

Btw, forgot to mention: I'm in Greece, so this is not the diesel engine. Maybe diesel ones don't have a problem?

My last tank was 420 miles, which I think is about 55mpg. This is a personal best. I haven't seen less than 45mpg. Grrreat isn't it. I'm doing more motorway miles at the moment, which has seen a few extra miles in the tank.

I have had my Aygo Blue for just over a year and done 25,000 miles goin from Truro, Cornwall to Preston, Lancashire on a regular basis a trip os some 320 miles.

Traveling at 80-90mph I need to make a stop and top up with a tenner's worth of juice

Traveling a 55-60, I arrive with 3 bars showing and get another 20-30 miles before the third bar disapears.

It really depend on how you drive it.

For best consumption stick behind a lorry and slipstream it, ease the throttle very gently, brake gently and early, short shift, peirce egg and blow ;)

An update since my last post:

Initial fill... 57.48 MPG

2nd fill...... 58.02 MPG

3rd fill....... 60.50 MPG

4th fill....... 58.42 MPG

5th fill....... 58.26 MPG

6th fill....... 57.10 MPG (A/C used quite a bit!)

Average overall = 58.3 MPG which I think is extremley good considering that my journeys consists mainly of A roads with loads of traffic lights. I guess on a long motorway trip I would get closer to 61 MPG. Who needs a dirty diesel! :P

Travelling at 80 - 90mph will get you a speeding ticket before long.

Slipstreaming a lorry at speed might just get you an early grave  ........................not really a very safe practice as to do it effectively you must be too close for your braking distances to be safe.

My brother used to do this in his 2CV and they have lousy brakes.

His arguement was that if you got close enough(and closer was better), when the truck did an emergency stop you'd have a very low relative speed and therefore do less damage than if you had the distance between you that'd allow the truck to slow more with you still doing 60mph when you hit it.

According to Mythbusters "drafting" can be economical at 100' or less, but 2' distance

decreased the advantage due to "feathering" the throttle to keep the distance the same...

Just managed my worst fuel consumtions so far........Flat out on the M1 only managed 312 before the v.fast flashing and beeping.....39.4MPG. That was with the A/C on all weekend.

Still not too bad, the old motor would have got about 22 on this sort of run so im still happy with the little beast. In general averaging about 47 most of the time.

I have now done 4000 miles and the car is doing about the same amount of miles per tank and around 52-57mpg.

I have fitted bigegr, heavier alloy wheels with wider tyres so the weight and aero drag is up, to offset this the circumference is slightly higher (3%), the engine has loosened up and has thinner Mobil 1 oil in it.

Hello guys...

Due to a small crash* I had I brought my Aygo back in to the dealership, and a propos I told them to LOOK at and FINALLY FIX the high consumption rate (lately I'm at the 8.3l/100km mark, I guess 34mpg imperial?). A few minutes ago they told me that, again, they could find nothing wrong.

So I told them, well, if you didn't find anything wrong, keep looking for it dammit! Supposedly the engine is running fine. So either I'm crazy or I'm driving like one... A colleague suggested that maybe I'm changing gears at totally wrong speeds, which got me wondering if my practice is ok:

2nd gear: 18.6mi/30km

3rd gear: 31mi/50km

4th gear: 49.7mi/80km (maybe a little sooner)

5th gear: 68mi/110km

Does this sound correct to you?

Cheers

*My little aygo is fine - just the front bumper and one front light whose connector snapped. The other car, though, an Alfa 159, suffered damages in the €5-6k range...!

My Aygo is in "break-in" period still as it's done 500 miles so far.

I get about 53mpg combined (motorway + urban). But normally I go to/from work only and short distance trips (no motorway) so in total after 500 miles my Aygo does nearly 49mpg. It will be better later. I haven't tried to drive it like a granny yet. I use aircon a lot. Baby car seat + isofix base and stroller always in the car for extra ballast ;)
