Motor Factors

Hi

as expected the Celica failed it's test, mainly on brakes.

I am now looking for front calipers, bottom ball joints and handbrake shoes.

My car is an early 90 which could be causing the difficulty finding new parts.

Is there a motor factors members use for their bits.

Would have to be mail order if not local to me on Teesside.

cheers

Failing that try http://www.brakesint.co.uk/.

Local factors like Unipart/Partco will probably be able to do stuff like balljoints.

Hi Kev, thanks, have just emailed TCB.

Hi Dak, thanks for that I'll ring them on Monday, may need a master cyl as well as the brakes are spongy but I'll see what they are like when I can get to bleed them with new calipers.

cheers

Hey TCGT there is a gen 5 over here in my local breakers... If you get stuck I know he only wants 20 quid per caliper... I work near London so if you want I can take them off the car and mail them to you.. You'll have to pay the postage though... The car is complete apart from the motor so the master cyl should be there too.. Let me know if you get stuck... I just recently paid 167 for the caliper on my gen4 and thats a Dec89 so I know they can be expensive... Let me know..

Hi Cris,

brilliant offer, thanks.

I will know Monday lunchtime if the two calipers I've ordered from my local factors are the right ones.

£55 each.

May not be though as the ball joints he stocks, whilst being similar are too small.

I'll let you know.

cheers

TCGT.........

You could try LT Motors in Oxbridge, just off Yarm Lane . Guaranteed, fully reconditioned calipers for a fraction of the price of new ones. They'll cost more than at a breakers, but at least you're starting with a clean slate.

Or drop Glen a PM ( wonder how he's doing with the engine swap ! )

Hi, thanks

the quote of £55 each is from LT.

Girlfriend lives just round the corner from Oxbridge.

I get most of my regular bits and peices from them but they tend to struggle with JDM vehicles.

Hi,

Just picked up the front calipers from LT 55 plus vat, cheapest I've found and they seem to be the right ones.

Should I be worried though that the two new ones are identical and not handed as I only have one old one off at present.

Cris, thanks very much for the offer of those calipers but I think I am sorted with these.

cheers

hi,

managed to get to the other caliper today.

As I suspected the calipers are mirror images of each other the leftone has a big L on it and the right one has a R.

LT motors have ordered another one so should be sorted tomorrow.

Whilst I'm on could I plug

http://www.japarts.co.uk/shop/index.php?sh...id=1364&s=0

where I managed to find bottom ball joints, very friendly, knowlegable and efficient. Free next day delivery too.

cheers

hI,

LT Motors sorted me a correct side caliper, on now no problem.

The brakes are behaving in the same way after bleeding ie. the pedal is hard when the engine isn't running but goes to the floor when the car is started..

I have ordered a Master cylinder repair kit and I hope that this is the problem, it's starting to baffle me.

Can a faulty servo make a hard brake pedal spongy?

cheers
