My Car Met A Wall

:( Well early this morning just popped to the shop, got back in the car reversed it straight into a low wall!!

caught the car right between the passenger rear quarter panel and the bumper, oh and dragged the rear light right out of its socket.

have driven this car for 5 years and never as much as put a scratch on it, am very upset...

have phoned the insurance and they are going to pick the car up to access damage.

does anyone have any idea on what the insurance is prepared to pay out on these vehicles, as i know as i know their valuations are a lot different from ours.

basically i need a new rear quarter panel, rear bumper and a light unit

am just hoping they arnt going to write the car off

has anyone had any experience with insurance companies?

I had a bad crash with a GT4 back in the summer purchased for £5800, the car was a pristine example...show condition, modified sensibly and looked great outside, inside and under the bonnet! They valued the car at £2350!

Thank god I was insured through sky who I had paid the extra £35 to get an agreed value sorted! Otherwise I would have got a lot less than the car was worth.

Although, i'm sure they have to value it at what they can get a replacement car in the same condition for?

didnt know you could agree a value for the insurance

my stepdad had his van written off in the summer he paid £6,000 for it only a few months previous, the insurance company would only offer £3,800. he even sent them the auto trader and various other ads showing them that a replacement van of the same year, milage,ect.. could not be purchased for that amount they said he couldnt haggle with the money being offered.and so he lost out after a big battle.

i think it probably depends on the insurance company your with

elephant valued my last one at £3500, but after some shouting and copies of a few adds from autotrader I go them up to £6000

Remember though on old cars the repairs only need to be about 50% of the cars value for it to be deamed a write off...

Shouldn't be that much though for the panels, it's the painting that will increase costs the most. If they come back with a silly quote get a second opinion from somewhere else.

It's you legal right to be able to choose where the car is repaired, as long as the garage is Vat registered and has qualified staff you can take it anywhere. Don't let them push you into taking it to one of their "Approved" garages...

Also if you don't agree with a valuation and the Insurance company is sticking to their guns, mention taking the case to the Insurance ombedsmen and they'll soon change their tune.

well the car is going in tomorrow for its repairs :D

am so relieved they are going to repair it

their quote was £1500. for replacement bumper, rear quarter and light unit. i must say i was quite surprised at the quote, was expecting a lot more.

I pick up a courtesy car tomorrow :( , i wonder what that will be

but at least my pride and joy gets to live another day :yahoo:

it would have been really embarrasing to have the car written off doing just 5 miles an hour in reverse :!Removed!:

well to my absolute delight , not , its a fiesta style

i dont know why its called that as it doesnt have any

its scary round corners ,any faster than 30 mph and i am sure it goes round on two wheels

to hit 70 was a job in itself needed a long dual carriage way. but lost all speed going up hills :crybaby:

oh well its only a week ,am now having to wear dark glasses and a hat until i get marvin back :o

but its an experience, one i hope not to repeat again

and if i crash the fiesta it will be its own fault and can only improve its appearance

  • 3 weeks later...

well i had the call today, the car was ready :yahoo:

was feeling really happy :D i was getting rid of the fiesta :yahoo::yahoo:

saw my car and.... they have done a really bad job around the rear side window, they have masked the window off on the rubber, and you can see really rough edges :crybaby:

the garage said they were happy with the finish!! I told him to get new glasses

so i had to get back in the bl---y fiesta and drive home :crybaby:

am rather depressed i've had no turbo for nearly 3 weeks

i am sick to death of being chased by clios, and corsas and not being able to do anything about it :censor:

i have even been given hand signals (not very nice ones) for going too slow up hills :(

hopefully only another week
