Celica Ecu's

Hi guys,

Wondering if you could help ..

Got a mate looking at an old celica and with the 3s-ge Bhp output varying from different models (gen 1,2 & 3) going into the mr2's and celica's etc, is it possible to buy an ECU from a more powerful model and plug it straight into a 3s-ge with a lower bhp output..

Just thinking of a way to improve performance ..

Cheers,

Ben.

hoping someone on here will answer soon as would be superb if it was possible....

In theory I guess the 3s-ge is the same engine run in all the cars with only small alterations done and it would be the mapping of the ECU whicvh would effect the Bhp output, with the same engine and the mapping changined I am guessing in theory this should work...

Which techincal guru's do we have here who can giev a definative asnwer ?

I've heard of second gen one swapped for a first gen ecu, dont' know about any others. Ask at a local dealership or rolling road specialist, of course the later will probable try to sell you what ever chip the y supply :)

i would expect it to run but not very well. The ECU's are specifically designed for their specific engines. But id never say never.

Chances are if you did get it to work you would get lots of error codes.

chances are it would work, but to get the real gain in hp youd need to add air filters, exhaust manifold/system and injectors.

basically the ecu controls how much fuel is injected into the chamber as it measures the amount of air going through the filter/afm.

chances are that it will run, and they have a "limp home" setting should anything go wrong on the car, it will get you to a garage or home but performance will be crap (standard setting on most ecu's)

well, theres my bit of advice/ info. if i think or hear of anything else ill let you know as soon as i can.
