I am new to this forum and have a 51 plate t-sport on 51k which has been a gem till now i really hope someone can advise....

ok firstly my car was fully serviced 4 days ago. when i picked it up the engine management light came on after 10 miles so returned to the garage by the time i got there it switched off but they plugged it in and said all was well.

three days later i pull up to fill with fuel, get in and it wont start so i called out the AA who got it started by removing the negative terminal whilst the ignition was on.

On the way home put my foot down and no lift??? just a slight glitch when it hit 6000, then came a rattle at 2000-3000- revs that sounded from inside the car to be coming from the drivers side of the engine but low down this progressivley got worse then the ecu light came on again so i had to pull over

As i slowed to a stop the engine stalled i had to restart because i was on a slip road only got it started with my foot on the accelerator but managed to get off slip agin as i slowed to stop the engine cut (straight after dipping the clutch)........then nothing .....DEAD :crybaby: (starter motor turns)

im hoping as there were no crunches, bangs or smoke and that it cut at low revs and gently that its not fatal and due to the lift mechanics working on oil pressure and this rattling (which could be the tappets) im presuming its something to do with the oil??

any way my pride and joy was put on the back of a lorry and taken to the nearest toyota dealer.

is it the oil?

could it be an error on the service?

will i have to sell an organ to pay for it to get fixed?

Hi. Welcome to TOC. Sorry you've got such a tale of woe. :( TBH it could be a variety of things. I've had a quick look at the AutoData for your car and the only common denominator between all the symptoms, is the Engine Management System (EMS). Although the rattle is some cause for concern, I assume you've checked the oil? It's possible the oil pump has failed, did you notice any warning lights come on, Admtttedly it's not the first thing you look for when you're in traffic and slowing down.

If I were in your shoes I think I'd be getting a garage to have a look. - Not the same one you used before. - Just in case they are culpable. Sorry I can't be of more help. But good luck with it anyway.

hi and thanks for your reply

I didnt check the oil at the time of breakdown but it cant of lost all the oil in a few days without me noticing..... i hope

but the more i read up from differnet sources and with back up from people like yourself it does seem as though it could be the oil pump, this would explain the rattling getting worse and the lack of lift.

hmmm makes you wish you learnt the mechanics trade when things like this happen

the only warning light was the orange malfunction light and the oil light never came on at all also i do remember opening the oil filler cap and the was oil (and only oil) visibly present.

someone has mentioned it could be the cat rattling as the sound was coming from low down?

Sounds to me like you might have had a lift bolt break, cam shaft might have moved, bolt might be floating around in the head.

Get yourself over to www.newcelica.org

Good luck mate, seems like your not having much luck.
