My first post in the celica forum so i'll start off by saying HELLO.

now for my dilemma, me and my girlfriend have been lookin at celicas and have decided that a gen 6 gt would be the one for us, but ive been looking and keep comin up with 162, 182, 202, are these all gt versions? i assumed that its just a different trim level but i cant find owt that describes the differences. help! also is there such thing as a 4wd non turbo version? loke at work was tellin me that you can get them but i was under the impression that the only 4wd is the gt4?

not gonna be purchasing one for a while yet, will need to get my girlfriend through her test and sell the arosa (cheap to run but MY GOD! its so small!), but hopefully will have aroun 3k to spend. i cant wait to get one, i miss my mr2 and want another but its just not practical enough and theres no seat for the dog! so next best thing has to be a celica.

thanks

As you correctly surmise, the 162, 182 & 202 are the GT (2wd) versions. There are no non turbo 4wd versions available. The 165, 185 & 205 are all 4wd turbo versions of the GT. (Gen 4, 5 & 6) The thing to watch out for though, specifically if you're looking to get a Gen 6 Celica - They do two different engine sizes. 1.8 & 2.0 And I believe 3 different 2.0 engines. The 1.8 is actually a ST but is still referred to as a GT I believe. The 2.0 models come with a 3S bottom end with different heads and various levels of tune. The engines can be identified by a sticker on the cambelt cover. So 3S-FE is approx 140 BHP. 3S-GE is around 170 BHP and the creme a la creme of the normally aspirated range is the 3S-GE VVTi. Beams red top. rated at near as dammit 200 BHP (Also a very rare black top of this engine - 210 BHP)

On top of that you have SS1, SS11, and SS111 models which relates to age.

Minefield isn't it. There are also other import models which can lead to further confusion.

HTH

Under Celica topic, look under the pinned Important Topics and read the "Celica Generation 6". It should help you decide. I'm selling my Gen 6 ST202 by the way. Let me know if you want to know more.

i should be able to tell the engines apart as my mr2 had the ge engine, am i right in thinkin that the import will have more toys in?
