Hello,

I've received my new avensis from 1 week and now I can read the mp3's files :yahoo:

There is also a new option called ASL. But how does it work? I've 4 choises: off, low, mid and high. But wathever choice, I hear no difference.

It's auto sound levelling. As the car increases speed, the stereo increases volume to compensate for the extra noise. Should mean you don't have to turn the stereo up at faster speeds. It is very subtle, I have mine set to high and don't really notice it in action, but it probably works!

My last car (a Mondeo) had it and you could definitely hear the difference it made - very effective (but the Mondeo was a massively noisier car). The way to catch it out was by suddenly braking from 80mph down to a stop or for a roundabout - only try this on an empty road :) ! As you stopped you would hear the stereo turning down the volume. I guess the Avensis would do the same, but I suspect you would have to throw the anchors out at an almighty speed as the car is so much quieter and the effect more subtle.

Hi

I've already tested the 3 modes but as you say,I hear no difference. I always put the volume louder manualy.

Does the system works with the speed or with the noise inside the car?

thx

Seem to recall reading that it is engine speed related - which might explain why it is not very noticable in a diesel (as you and I both have) where engine revs stay much lower.
