As a complete novice regards Land cruisers can anybody offer advice on what to look for when purchasing one.

i have seen what appears to be a very nice one its a Colorado VX 3.4 V6 petrol i only do around 5k a year so i am hoping the running costs on petrol will be ok and maybe at a later date have a LPG conversion?

i have been wanting to buy one for a couple of years. and i am now taking the plunge what sort of things should i look for when making my purchase? are there common faults or problems things to avoid?

also the best place to get a tow bar fitted?

i am going out on a limb here to purchase the vehicle, i figure its now or never i am not getting any younger. but i dont want to be hit with lots of bills?

can anyone offer some friendly advice please

thanks best regards paul

Hi Paul. These are good vehicles as long as they have had regular servicing ,so ask for the records.

Common complaints that I have seen are spongy brakes and steering wander.

The brakes have a tendancy to be a little soft or spongy at the best of times.

The steering wander can usually be fixed with new shock absorbers.

Its worth having the best tyres and shocks

I dont have one but we have 2 in the family. The 2000 diesel model has had a new head and computer in 200000klms ,nearly all spent on dusty outback roads in 40c heat.

The 96 petrol model hasnt had any problems at 120000 klms

I would take particular note of the coolant system. If they have corrosion ticking away it could be a financial time bomb

Hi Sandgroper, thanks for the advice. Its funny i had planned to buy the landcruiser when i moved to perth.

i have just come back from a visit to perth to validate my emigration visa, unfortunately the wife was not keen on the idea, so i decided to live the dream back home instead,

its a pity i had a great time wonderful place loved the weather. anyway thanks again for the advice. if anybody has any more advice about the things to look out for on a landcruiser please let me know.
