No, they will not be allowed to reset the mileage as the rest of the car has still done the miles.

But there will of course be a stamped record in your log book so everybody will still know.

Why/where would they stamp the log book? There is no requirement to say a car has had a new engine.

Not a requirement, no, but surely you'd expect something like an engine change to be recorded in the book!

I would be very surprised if it wasn't. If not, I would be demanding it.

yeah i expect it to be stamped into the book as any other work to the car should be.

2 weeks today, still awauting a call!!!

It isn't stamped and the car keeps the mileage. My mates megane had a new engine and he didn't tell the person he sold the car to. Was never right after that.

really the car wasn't right afterwards?!?!?!

should i get a new one then?

Hi

If I were you I would have rejected the car outright and demanded a new one under the sales of goods act 1974. By allowing them to 'do work' on it i.e. change engine, may reduce your chances of a replacement, now.

this is a letter i intend on sending to Toyota (GB) Plc any feedback please.

Dear Sirs,

Purchase of Toyota Aygo Sport

I had been saving up for a new car for two years and was ecstatic when the Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo models were launched. I purchased my choice from Toyota, even though there was more expense involved; I knew Toyota was a trustworthy and competent company.

My Aygo sport was purchased on 31st November 2006 and these are the following points that I feel I must raise.

Friday 22nd December- Engine management light appeared on dash. I took my car to Westlands Toyota Wednesday 27th December when the dealership re-opened after the Christmas period. Meanwhile I did not use my car over Christmas, frightened in case permanent damage would be a result. When I arrived I asked for a courtesy car as I would of usually been in work for 7.am, I was refused one and I got a reply ‘Oh work doesn’t matter don’t worry about it’. Quite promptly my car was took into the garage while I had to wait from 9.00am till approx 10.00am. However, I was told that after the investigation to see what the problem was, they believed a more ‘in-depth’ investigation would be needed and my car was booked in for 10th January 2007 at 8.30. The Toyota dealership then sent me on my way after switching off the engine management light and assured me that the car was still ‘safe’ to drive.

Tuesday 2nd January- In the days leading up to the New Year I noticed that my car was severely underperforming and the engine sounded so noisy and loud that it felt unsafe to drive and every time I took a journey I was nervous. Therefore I decided on this date that the car probably is not ‘safe’ to drive as Toyota had assured me. I phoned Westlands Toyota and I expressed my concern that I couldn’t wait for the appointment on the 10th January and would like to drop my car of in the evening. To which I got a reply that I could do that but also that there’s no courtesy car to supply me with, which I was very shocked at. I was even so much told to call RAC so they could provide me with a courtesy car, which I was absolutely appalled with. Luckily Westlands did call me with good news that there would be a courtesy car available.

A day or two after I had dropped the car off I had a call off Toyota Westlands to explain that after yet another investigation, they still couldn’t find an answer but I was told not to worry and they would keep me informed.

Two weeks later on the 16th January I still had heard nothing at all off Westlands after waiting very anxiously. I phoned Westlands, they apologised for not calling me and went on to explain that it is a severe problem and I will need a new engine in my car but work hasn’t started on my car yet. I thought I was in disbelief. I asked why work hadn’t started and apparently the wait is upon Toyota specialists to find out what the cause of this problem was before mechanical work can commence. In the same breath I was also told that they were about to call me anyway to return the courtesy car for a different one as they presume the one I will be in now is dirty which is bad advertisement for the company.

In conclusion to this I would just like to inform you that my faith in Toyota has been reduced significantly. This was my first new car which I expected to be ‘trouble free’ and reliable and I am most upset that I have been proven wrong.

As I previously stated, my Christmas and even New Years holidays were ruined because I was so afraid to drive my car, I was literally housebound.

Now we have established that my cars engine has been permanently damaged I am unwilling to have the car back once and it is ever fixed, as I would never have peace of mind.

I now believe that I am left with two options. One option is to have my money refunded so I can successfully buy a different model and make of car. The other option is that of a gesture of good will Toyota replace my car with a new Aygo Sport with the same specification and also the discount on future services that was agreed when I purchased my car.

I await your reply in due course.

Many thanks for taking the time to address these problems.

Regards

Lucy-Ann Creed

Would it help to note that you are a member of TOC and many Aygo and possibly potential Aygo owners are watching the outcome of your problem?

Toyota knows about TOC and even promotes it in the magazine. Sometimes alert companies can spot a PR disaster before it actually happens

^^ That is an awful statement, how dare they say that!

That is well written, you get your point across perfectly and have given them an explanation which isnt too long winded or brief.

On a similar subject like Paul above, I would also mention that you would take this matter to Watchdog and the papers too - you have had no end of problems which isnt what you get a car for!

Posted

thanks very much you two for your imput.

maybe i shall mention TOC as its not good promotion for Toyota Aygo's on here while I am moaning!

that statment shocked me bout what they said about my work it put me nearly 4 hrs behind at work!

thanks for reading my letter I know its quite long!

I should point out that your sales contract is with the dealer NOT toyota UK.

I would write a letter direct to the Dealer Principal of the dealer where you bought the car. Copying it to Toyota UK won't do any harm either.

This is an extract of a letter I wrote to the dealer when rejecting a Golf delivered to me with a gearbox fault.

I am willing to give your company one more chance to resolve these problems in full and permanently such that they do not re-occur. I am sure that you will agree that such problems are unacceptable and disappointing in a new car.

The Supply of Goods Act 1994 requires that a vehicle 'be of satisfactory quality, having regard to its age and price paid.' My car being new clearly should have no faults at all.

If another attempt to fully and finally correct the faults detailed above is not successful I will reject the vehicle and demand either a replacement car to the same specification or a full refund of the recommended retail value of the car.

I look forward to your early reply in writing, within a maximum of seven days.

When I went to drop the car off for them to try and fix, the DP offered me a replacement car straight away. It took 10 weeks to arrive but they gave me another brand new car whilst I was waiting.

i see what you mean kenl. i have let the dealership know by telephone i am not happy and i knoe i should grow up because i feel if i send then a nasty letter i will be embarassed to take my car to a service.

in the long run Toyota UK are based in sunderland and they have all the powers that be there and will for sure take notice.

A letter does not need to be nasty, just stating the facts. I bet the person in charge does not know you have been treated so shabbily :ffs:

Lucie, I work in retail and the advice that Kenl is spot on. In law your contract is with the dealership and not Toyota - although they are the cause of the problem!

You have been extreemly patient, now is the time to use the "The supply of goods act" which gives you protection and pursue the dealer.

The dealership know the score! So I suggest you send the letter set out by Kenl and send it by registered post.

If no response refer to you local Trading Standards Office - probably located at your Town Hall

That's something I wouldn't do initially as it can be interpreted as a threat.

A first letter should be polite in tone, but your displeasement should be clearly worded as well.

Your giving them the options you consider is good, as this

makes it easier to formulate an answer for them; Yes or No :P

As for the Courtesy Car; in The Netherlands I got 3 years Toyota Care, which is a

MOBILITY Guarantee; if annything goes wrong with my car, they will make sure

I stay mobile, either by fixing my car or supplying me with alternate transportation...

my Aygo courtesy I have just noticed has a full carpeted boot. But in my Sport i am sure that there is no carpet on the sides cus i was always scared to put things in my boot incase it dented or scratched the paint!

;)

Posted

My Sport has greyish fibrous textured moulded pieces on either side of the "boot", certainly not bare metal.

I have made a protective leathercloth cover for the bare metal bits on either side of the catch in the middle...I think those areas would soon be scratched by lifting things in and out.

Posted

i wonder why mines different it seems strange!

on the sides it has the metalic paint showing :-(

Posted

Someone forgot to put the side bits in....perhaps the same team that misinstalled the ecu that probably caused the engine to run badly until it damaged itself.

More evidence for a "Friday car" that should be completely replaced, add that you have no confidence in it and will be waiting for the next problem to happen, which is no way to enjoy driving.

Posted

There's a picture of the boot in my basic Aygo in this thread.

Time for another chat with your dealer.

Paul.
