I actually looked at a Swift when shopping for a new car.

But they're more expensive to buy AND RUN; more taxes, more thirsty

and if you want a nice trimlevel you'r paying WAY more than an Aygo.

The cheapest Swift without any creature comforts costs more than an Aygo Plus...

I think you're overreacting in not trusting your courtesy-Aygo;

there's litteraly THOUSANDS driving around without any hassle,

yours probably was built monday morning or friday late afternoon...

yeah but i am really nervous driving this aygo cus i keep expecting the engine management light to pop on.

I know my car was a one off with it breaking but im just not confident driving a toyota anymore.

Picked up my 2nd courtesy car today 3 weeks and counting toyota have had my car now!

I agree with Jan.

I had a 2003 Mazda MX5 for acoup[le of years but having retired I resented paying over £200 a year road tax and 32mpg fuel bills, plus insurance costs.

£40 road tax for the Aygo,4 seats, 60+mpg, low insurance and MUCH more driving enjoyment surely is the way to go.In the Mx5 I was always tailgated by drivers thinking I should be driving faster or wanting a race...never happens in the Aygo...very relaxing by comparison.

The engine light is just as likely to come on in a Suzuki as a Toyota, its just one of those things.I would say very unlikely to happen to the same person twice in their lifetime.

(I am now about to be proven wrong by hundreds of examples of people who have had it happen to then twice!)

I've been following your post, and it does not look like youre having much luck at all.

I thought I would offer you this little bit of advice. A lot of people seem to be saying that you should reject the car outright under Sale of Goods Act 1974. If you reject the goods, you will be given a refund rather than a replacement car, which by the sounds of it, is not really what you want. And besides, under the Sale and Supply of Consumer Goods Regulations 2002, you are not entitled to reject the goods until the supplier has had an opportunity to fulfil their obligations under the regulations.

Your first remedy under the Regulations is to a repair or replacement. Until Toyota say that they will not repair/replace, you are not entitled to use the other remedies (namely reduction in price and then rejection).

My advice would be to express your disatisfaction with the service and explain that you wish to be compensated for their poor performance. Armed with the above information, I think you might scare them a bit and they may agree to do you a deal. My local dealer dishes out Yaris courtesy cars which cost more to run compared with a Aygo. I would use that to say that you have increased petrol costs. My suggestion would be to negotiate a discount on something. They are not likely to hand over cash as that would set a dangerous precedent. Milk them for a free service or something like that. That will save you some dosh.

I hope this helps.

that toyota have had my car. A friend knows someone who works at the garage and says that everyone who works there knows about my car, it is a laughing stock cus its such a rare thing to happen (need a new engine) and the engine is at this point out of the car!

my poor poor little car! :-(

Thanks JOERV, that was really helpful.

you're right i do not want a refund i just want my car back. it has been 4 weeks to the day and the have only contacted me twice and one of those times was to get me to return the courtesy car!

They have supplyed me with standard aygos each time.

They have had my car longer than i have ever driven it, but atleast im putting mileage on the courtesy car and not mine. But i would just never ever have peace of mind if i were to have mine back even with a new engine and warranty i would just be nervous all the time in it.

i did write to toyota dunno if you have read the post (complaining to toyota) and i haven't heard anything yet :-(

really the car wasn't right afterwards?!?!?!

should i get a new one then?

They are doing the work on the car now. There is no reason why the car shouldn't be right after this, though you will only be able to tell when you get it back. Changing an engine is not rocket science. If your engine is faulty and they replace with a new one, why would the new one be likely to be faulty?

By all means harass the dealer and get some freebies etc, but i really think chances are that your problem will be solved. There will always be cars that go wrong, its the law of probability. That it doesn't seem a common occurence on this forum is a good thing. That it happenned to you is unfortunate, but its just one of those things.

One thing i can't understand is why its taking them so long?

Surely 2/3 days max for this kind of thing?

yeah they won't even order a new engine until they find out what the cause was?!!?! fair enough i spose but 4 !Removed! weeks!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

i spose all i think is what ifs? what if the catalic convertor is damaged, what if something else happens..

i would just never have peace of mind. it won't feel like a new car again that feeling has long gone. my last car was a bit of a bodge job and thats how im gonna feel about this.

its horrible driving a new car and feeling nervous, it shouldn't be like this. it is my first new car and i want the 'perfect new car' feeling to last!

keep bugging them.

Doing 'What if's' is an absolute waste of time and is utterly pointless. Why would the cat be damaged?

What if you get out of bed tomorrow morning,

trip over something and break your neck?

I hope you get your car back soon, fixed and all,

but when you do, you should just enjoy driving it,

so no "What-If"-ing anymore now!

I guess this is the downside of buying a reliable car. If something does go badly wrong, Toyota won't let it go until they are sure they can stop it happening again, on the grounds that although one customer is already getting very annoyed the company reputation hangs on this sort of thing not happening too often.

Paul.

yeah no what ifing!lol BUT i was driving the car for 3 weeks while the engine was screwed so there's that little tiny possibility that the c convertor is damaged.

but i will stay positive from now on!

To be honest, this is beyond a joke now. I think it's about time you got a little more heavy handed. I believe you've already written to them noting your displeasure, it's time to expand on that by contacting consumer watchdogs, and letting Toyota HQ know that you're doing it. This delay verges on incompetence. Fair enough they want to know what's wrong with the engine, and they've taken it out of the car. So put a new one in, and get on with it!

I'f you've got finance on this car, I'd be pressing for a return on any payments you've had to make during this period. Otherwise, they need to innundate you with as many freebies, and as much goodwill as they can muster. I also imagine that this whole episode has put you off buying another Toyota?

hi thanks for the reply. you're right it has put me off toyota. driving the courtesy cars im forever worrying that the engine management light will flicker on! my faith has gone in all new cars.

im 19 nad this is my first ever new car and the happy feeling has just worn off!

now thinking about it im still paying insurance and for what!?? a months worth of me paying my insurance company and im not even driving the car! a months tax has disappeared and a months warranty. its startig to mount up.

i paid cash for the car, wish i had it on finance i think that they would have done more for me if i had it on finance.

its been a week and 3 days and still heard nothing off toyota UK about the letter i sent to them.

Posted

i have just the second sent Toyata GB a fax with a copy of the letter i sent earlier this month. Lets hope now they will get their finger out their **** and do something!

Hi Lucy-Ann,

Greetings from across the pond. Don’t be so disheartened. What has happened to you certainly is not the norm. I have owned Toyotas(4) for quite some time and have never had a major malfunction. What I have seen is significantly varying service from dealer to dealer. It is quite apparent that the dealer that you took the car to has issues. Is there another dealer nearby? Call Toyota Corporate. Explain what’s going on, most likely they really don’t have any idea.

Once rectified, I’m sure you will be happy with your Toyota. Don’t let a lousy dealer ruin the experience for you.

Good luck.

4 and half weeks i have been without my aygo!

2 weeks i have been waiting for a response to both my letters I sent to Toyota GB (UK)

And at last I have had the all important text off my mom!

"letter off toyota waiting at home for you!"

can't wait to get home to see what the letter says. (the copy letter is under the topic 'complaining to toyota')

THANKS EVERYONE! HOPE IT'S GOOD NEWS!!!!

I understand you're upset with Toyota, but wouldn't it have

been easier to keep everything related to this in one topic???

I believe you've got 3 or 4 running now...

Maybe one of the moderators can merge your topics???

Posted

I've merged the few topics that were running on this subject all into this single topic.

I think it reads OK but there might be the odd continuity error.

Good luck Lucie and keep this topic updated with info when available

Lucie, what did the letter say???
