Hi jalowi

I would only use 4 wheel drive on a muddy/loose surface. When you get on the dry road use only 2 wheel drive or you can cause damage to the transmission. (This is called transmission windup). The Hilux does not have a 'Range Rover Type of 4x4 Trasmission)

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info always had the idea to tow on 4wd never knew that it could damage transmission one thing i would like to ask is why is it that in the morning after start up when i use the van for the first couple of meters as i let go of the clutch pedal the transmission seems to shudder then as soon as things warm up it's back to normal any clues? thanks for your help

Hi jalowi

Yes mine used to do that also, I think it is a build up of rust on the brake discs when it is wet/damp overnight. Once the wheels have turned a couple of times i.e.2-3 metres the rust rubs off & all is OK.

Nothing to worry about really.
