Fog Light Problems

Hey there people.

I recently bought a Carina E 1.8 Solair (1996) which has been a great car so far, but It just has one really annoying problem with it.

When I have the lights on, the rear fog lights have a mind of their own and keep turning themselves on randomly, at first I thought was just the display light on the dash coming on randomly, but I have been flashed by several people following me as when the fog lights do come on by themselves, I have to press the fog light button several times to get them to stay off so anybody following me thinks I'm flashing them deliberately like a weirdo.

I was told a new speedo was fitted just before I bought the car but personally don't think it is part of the problem. However thats why I'm here...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Moorsta

Wonder if the connection behind the button is faulty or the wiring leading up to it?

Might be worth getting it off and starting from there. :)

Not really sure what I'm looking for there, I took the panel off where the button is and played around with the cables and the connection but that didn't resolve owt.

I've had the same problem since I've had the car ('97 Carina cdx 2.0)!

I've checked all my connections and switch and found nothing wrong.

Looking at the wiring diagram there is a diode in the circuit and I've been wondering if there is a problem with it.

Mine tend to only come on when I go over a bump in the road.

To turn them off - if I press the fog light button with any force the lights stay on, but if I tap the button they will eventually go off.

I'm kinda learning to live with it now, still annoying though,

Let me know if you find out how to sort them.

Cheers.

hah recently my rear foglights (or brake lights if you want) started to turn themselves on automatically, i thought it might be since it was pretty damp outside or something fancy like that, but no, they do it randomly i think, they are usually on when i start the car, so i turn them off and sometimes they stay off and sometimes they come back on again, would be nice if there is a solution to this so that the people behind me dont think im braking when im not.
