Local Plod Escape Speeding Charge!

Headline of last nights local rag. 2 local coppers got off a speeding charge in Cleveland because of illegal speed camera signs and means until the signs are corrected anyone caught on camera in Cleveland already can appeal against there conviction costing Cleveland police force millions of pounds.

This also going to affect all police forces around the country who have the wrong type of sign up.

The illegal signs are-

1. Any warning sign off speed camera's where the camera is not set against a white background, in this case it was on a yellow background.

2. Any warning sign off speed camera's where the camera is on a white background but has a black border surrounding the part showing the picture of a speed camera.

Quoted after the trial, traffic signs expert Mr Bentley said "to use signs that do not meet regulatory standards any authority has to have sought permission from the secretary of state within the dept of transport. If that is neither sought or granted, the use of signs is illegal and any authority using them is acting beyond their powers and the implications can be dire."

I saw that too. Now imagine if Joe Public had tried that one with the courts.

Probably have been banged up for wasting the courts time......
