The old 2.0 d4d was a belt. The new 2.0 d4d, 2.2d4d use a chain.

the fact that the new 2.2 d4d avensis is chain driven does that mean that i doesnt need changing at the 60,000 service?? when does this need changed???

iv a 05 2.2d4d tspirit with 61000 n is due it next service, i asked d local toyota dealer n hes quoting £460 including timing belt changed!! hes even asked for the reg.!!! however the independant garage round the corner say it wont need changed n quoting £170 for service only!! im quite confused!!

New D4D engine is chain drive. Should never need changing certainly not at 60,000 miles, maybe if you have car for a couple of hundred thousand miles you might have a bit of wear. Other than that i would not give chain a second fault.
