The oil light on my 01 D4D avensis remains on for a few seconds after starting, has anyone come accross this? It seems as if there is a non return valve leaking back when the engine is off for a while, can anyone shed more light on this for me?

The only thing that would cause the exact symptom you describe would be a cheap oil-filter. The only time I ever see my oil light on for that length of time is when I've had an oil and oil-filter change, it never ever does it again, not even after being stood for a fortnight at Leeds & Bradford Airport! :)
