Hi

I used to have a Mk3 Hilux which smoked a lot going up hills. This was because I got a mate to 'open up' the fuel pump adjuster to get more power when towing.

A previous owner may have done this with your pickup.

Try turning the pump adjuster screw in about half a turn at a time and see if this helps!

You will loose a bit of power but try to get a happy medium.

Hope this helps.

Tony

Black smoke is normally due to a air to fuel ratio this could be

Faulty injectors normally need reconditioning or new around 100k - 130k

Dirty air filter

Injector pump problems

Turbo problems

Problems within the head, valves clogged or faulty EGR valve

Cheers
