Standard Air Intake

I've just pulled off the standard snake air inlet from the TS, just left a big hole in the air box. Gave it a spin, is it me or does this give a deeper engine note?, or it may be that i've just cleaned the sparkplugs and MAF.

Also does leaving the snake off and leaving a great big gaping hole at the bottom of the air box affect the car in any bad way?

It will sound better removed, try removing your whole airbox, sound even better.

It won't affect the car, as the filter still traps the dirt, only problem is it may suck a bit more hot air.

Not really as the point in the hose is to direct it to cool air! I suppose on a cold night it may gain a little but in hot weather it will loose a little! You could make a bigger feed pipe up to the box and add a better panel filter for a little increase

So if I buy some PVC pipe and bend it down to the bottom grille under the number plate, I should be sorted?

Obviously I dont expect massive increase, only a tiny weene bit.

Erm i guess so? Also you could enlarge the hole size to the airbox with the piping tight to the box so the guided cold air is all that enters it  There is a post on the echo owners club somewhere about modifying the intake! Do a search on here may give the post with the link to it on!
