Help Needed - Electic Hood

I have a 1998 Celica GT 2.00 covertible. The rear strut holding the hood up which should move when the roof goes up and down eletrically has sheered in half. I have had an extortionate quote to repair/replace it. Any ideas how to repair the damage?. The strut appears to be some form of carbon fibre.
