Cooling Fans

Hi All

I notice that my Rav4 has two cooling fans, while facing the car the left hand one comes on when required but I haven't heard or seen the second (right hand one) one come on yet. Does anyone know when or if the second fan should come on, I was thinking maybe it might not come on until a higher temperature has been reached if the first can't cool enough, or should it come on at the same time as the other one.

Thanks

Chris

If your RAV4 has air/con ,it could be a cooling fan for the air/con radiator  .

Quite right Bob, it is for the air con. You should be able to test the fan Chris by switching on the aircon and it will operate during the compressing cycle (in other words it will preriodically click on and off). By the way it is a good idea to use the aircon at least once a month to keep the compressor clutch and seals in good order. Using it to demist windows is a good opportunity and very effective.

Cheers

Hi All

Thanks for that. Can someone explain how you use Aircon to demist the windscreen?

Thanks

Chris

Depending on model. If its a 4.3 hit the button which looks like a rear demist button but is arched (not the graetest description i know, if all else fails press both). This will automatically fire up the aircon to max onto the screen.

Hi Chris

Turn the air direction knob to demist windscreen

Make sure the recirculate control is set to fresh air

Turn fan switch up as required

Set temperature to high

turn on A/C

You will be astonished how quickly it will demist the windscreen as the air is dehumidified on its way into the car.

Regards
