Meanwhile I did another upgrade too:

Connected to the radio it shows me an extra line of info, I've got a new clock

(as this disappeared with the original radio and I didn't want to sacrifice

display-space on my radio) AND I've got outside temperature!...

And with the radio off I get a date-display!

Is this display from a Vauhxhall (Opel in Europe I believe) and how did you connect this to your aftermarket stereo? Did you also have to install a temperature probe? Also the fit is very nice. I do appreciate a nice job.

Yes, it's a Triple Info Display (TID) from an Opel Corsa B.

how did you connect this to your aftermarket stereo?

That's the whole fun of it; the Head Unit I allready had

(Kenwood KDC-PSW9524) and built into my Aygo

is fitted with an interface to drive an Opel Display.

If it hadn't had this interface I'd never gone through

the costs and trouble I did now "just to fit a clock".

"All I had to do" now was wire it up. Off course THAT was the

hardest part (11 wires) And changing the lighting to orange LED's.

Left is original incandescent bulb, right is a home made LED

Comparison of the original bulbs and my conversions

Did you also have to install a temperature probe?

At the moment the probe is tucked under the central console.

But I do plan on putting it where it should be; behind the front bumper.

To do this I need to/want to take off the bumper,

so I can also fit my airhorns, but since I'm quite busy

and everything works fine as is, this might take a while...

My airhorns under the bonnet of my previous car

Also the fit is very nice.

I made a rubbing of the back panel, cut that out and layed it over

the TID a friend of mine had in his Astra G (same TID). It fit, so I did

some measurements to see if I'd be able to fit it depth-wise and when

that all checked out I researched the wiring and went on my way.

It's actually TAPED in place with Eagle-tape, as the original bracketing wasn't compatible:

Do you think it will be possible with the standard radio?

Absolutely NOT. The standard radio is cripled as it is, with the

RCA-outputs not functioning, so a "treat" like this is out of the question.

But you COULD install this TID and use it as a revvcounter;

His car uses a DID (Dual Info Display), but the protocol is the same...

You DO need to be able to program a PIC-controller...

Thank you! Just what i was looking for.

Nice installation, im thinking of putting a in-dash monitor there.

Now I know how it will look like if you don´t have the orginal stereo, great!.

whats a bezel ?

The plastic surround the goes around the radio to fit it flush with the dash in this case.

another example of a bezel would be a chrome surround on air vents or circular dash dials.

Something like this?

That monitor looks attrocious. I am personally going to get sunvisor monitors next month so I can play XBOX on the move :) & no scumbag thief will notice the monitors are there like they would with that monitor.

I don't like it either,

but to each their own!
