Toyota Insurance

As part of my preparations for the arrival of our new RAV4 - so exciting - I am of course arranging insurance. Have been with Norwich Union for years and got reasonably good service from them, but got fed up when they first quoted £421 for the new car and then, when I said I'd go ahead with that, suddenly said it would be £457! Apparently the first figure had been "approximate". Very annoying. So we're looking to change, and we find that when you carefully compare the premiums from various companies they are actually pretty close, but what you don't find out is how good the service after you have given them your money.

We'd like to know - does anybody have any experience of Toyota Insurance? The package they offer seems pretty good - do they live up to expectations?

Your quotes seem very steep to me.Do you have full no claims bonus ? I do not have Toyota insurance but I renewed mine last week with Admiral for my 05 4D4 XTR for £265 fully comp ,me and the wife.

Toyota Insurance were not quite the cheapest but reasonable and at any rate I found that all quotes were in the same bracket. My insurance premium is pushed up by the fact that I do a higher than average mileage per year, and I need full overseas cover and overseas breakdown cover. I also take out legal assistance, no claims cover and a courtesy car in case of repair. Having a no-fault claim (someone drove into the back of my car) made me realise that good service is more important than saving a few pounds on the premium.

I get my car insurance through a local broker - £265 for my new XT4 with 9 years NCD, protected and £200 excess. I've used the broker for several years and always found me policies (with recognised insurers) at good prices - and all done with a brief phone call.

Online and direct insurance services are fine but, if there's a broker who will do all the searching and get you a good deal, I go for it. Until 2 or 3 years ago, my wife had her car insured through one of the big-name companies who search for the "best policy" for you. I asked my broker to quote as a comparison at her renewal and he halved it! Needless to say, she switched.

Thank you, everyone, for your helpful suggestions. I did the moneysupermarket thing and got heaps of quotes, but I am more interested in the service you get in case of a claim than in the premium. I'd rather spend ten or fifty pounds a year more and have no arguments or quibbles if the worst should happen, than find a rockbottom price and then run the risk of all sorts of hassle in case of a claim. Came across that with horse insurance - there is one company that is cheaper than all the others: it's because they hardly ever pay out.

I had a no-fault claim with Norwich Union and they were fairly good in sorting things out, but I do find that it is very hard to communicate with their overseas call centre, and as I mentioned before, I got really annoyed when the actual premium was £36 more than their quote - in the space of less than a minute!

Anyway, nobody has replied to my post with a report of problems with Toyota Insurance, so I'll go with them. Not quite the cheapest but at least everything I need is included.

Thanks again for all the helpful information.

I have my insurance with Liverpool and Victoria (through What Car) give a very good service and helpful as well.... not had need to really put them to the test....

I also need to get Business insurance on mine as use car for work traveling around to client sites...whenever you mention this to some insurance companies they just suck air through there teeth....and you can hear the abacus going in the background :ffs: :ffs:

Some quotes are silly...I have full no claims..Clean license and live in the country....a bit past 30 and they still quote me silly money....but LV offered best quote and included cover for sat nav and legal + other items as well..Like you say "better to pay a bit more and be sure of proper cover"

You can also try www.confused.com to get an idea of cost etc....

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I will definately use Toyota next time. I have a friend who uses them and he nearly had all of one side of his almost brand new 06 RAV taken out by a truck. They took it to a Toyota workshop and used all genuine parts. I have been in the trade for a long time and I reckon I can spot even good repairs but this is so good that I cannot tell. They also delivered a replacement car (a BMW strangely enough) for the duration.

I would pay extra for that level of service but they seem to be competitive and offer all the usual benefits. I am wary of shopping for the really cheap ones as you never quite know how they will treat you in the event of a claim.

You pays your money and you takes your chance!

Hi, I used to work for Royal SunAlliance (not the Toyota Area though). Though I have moved on from the company I still use their insurance services - Not the cheapest however they do usually provide an excellent service, our House and Car is insured through More Than (RSA).

Peter.

Thanks, Peter and Anchorman - I am much reassured! And now of course we hope that we will never have occasion to find out how good the various claims services are...

Happy motoring!
