Gearbox Syncros

Hi folks, first ever post here. :)

I just bought a 205 GT4 WRC import. The car is damaged down one side (no probs cos bodywork is what i do!).

The problem is! 3rd 4th and 5th syncros hang when changing gear is unless the engine speed is matched itll crunch going to gear, its quite bad to be fair. Pretty sure its not the clutch cos 1st 2nd are fine. Was wondering (HOPING with all my being!) if decent oil will help but got a feeling its gearbox out time! . Is it worth getting involved in stripping the box and sorting it? Or search out a SH unit?

Any help mucho appreciated! :)

second hand all the way dude parts for the gearboxes are very expensive.

does it grate when going into reverse? if so i suspect the clutch is draging.

try some Auto Trans Fluid in it if this sorts it all is good if not then new box time. just make sure the ATF is GL5 spec or higher

Goes into reverse ok / 99.9 sure its nothing to do with clutch.

I heard from a friend that skylines suffer similar syncro problems in the higher gears and redline oil supposed to help!? not sure how tho as not sure exactly how a syncro works. I guess i know that box out is a possibility is one i want to avoid! pants! lol.

Thanks for the tip on the auto trans fluid.
