HI, on wednesday my car is getting tested. NCT Ireland. First of all, my key cannot lock or unlock my driver side door. I can, of course, unlock the passenger door and lean in to unlock the driver side door which I have to do now. It's all manual too, no central locking etc. I have opened it up and found that the Barrel is not working anymore. I need a new one. Where can I buy a new one today!!!!????

This will mean a fail on the test surely? Does anyone know?

But more annoyingly, I replaced a headlight bulb and it looks completely different now to the other one. The other one looks stronger and more direct. I have tried to set the replaced one using a screw that willraise and lower it, but I'm not sure which screw moves it left and right? And even raising and lowering it doesn't seem to help at all. Why would the new bulb look weaker? I can see the circular shine from the old bulb but cannot see the circular shine at all from the new one. It lights up, but I cannot find it's exact location.

Can anyone help with that? Because I know for certain that this is a fail problem?

The door lock isn't a fail but the headlamp issue might be, but it's hard to tell without seeing it.

Is it the correct bulb? could be just a defective bulb, have you tried swapping the brighter bulb to that headlamp? could be a voltage issue.

take it back and ask the seller to take a look at it, no harm in getting a 2nd opinion :  .

I will try that. Thanks. But can anyone tell me where the screws are on a 96 xli to adjust or set the haedlights as I honestly think they are off level?

About the headlight, i thought you were supposed to change both at the same time, regardless if only one has failed, so as they draw the same current and look the same.

Thats a good point, but the trouble I had trying to get the clip back in place on the first headlight prompted me to not even try to do it again. What can't they just twist in place like normal bulbs, instead of being the !Removed! krypton factor?

Matters haven't improved with the E12 corollas either. When my o/s headlight went it took me 40minutes to replace it and compared to the driver's side area, it was practically spacious.

do you think that they just lose their level setting when you open them to change a bulb or is it something else that makes them so different looking once one, or 2 are changed?

Still trying to find out if anyone knows how to adjust the levels both horizontally and vertically?

Can anyone even suggest how much it might cost to have the headlights adjusted and balanced and how long it would take for a mechanic to do it?

it should only take a few mins 20-30, it should cost no more that €20, most tyre centres have the equipment for doing it, there is no real labour involved only fine adjustment.
