Strange Metallic Rolling Noise

 Recently I've been hearing a strange noise, similar to the sound of an empty tin can rolling, when I turn, accelerate or break. The sound seems to be coming from under the floor of the cabin. I've done all the obvious things such as looking in boot, the spare wheel cavity, the footwells and under the car but can't find anything.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what this might be?

What condition are your brake pads in?

The brake pads are fine. The noise doesn't really come from that area though, it seems to be mobile - like there's something rolling around under the floor of the cabin.

Part of a clip from the door card fallen inside the door?

Had this problem on my old Primera and it turned out to be the heatshield that had come loose on the exhaust pipe just under the car behind the engine.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's something to do with one of the heat-shields too. All the underbody trays and shields seem to be attached OK but maybe a stone or something has got caught inside one?
