What To Do For High Emission

My Car's Emission is at 0.41% on High Idle, which is 0.11% above the maximum. I asked a mechanic today about it and he said that I should have an emission test done. He said the test normally costs about 70 euros. And whatever may be found then can be fixed at whatever it costs?

Does this sound like whats needed? Or should I merely try to clean the fuel? It's just that my engine has a slight leak too and I need to fix a few other things too and it's just gonna spiral out of control financially. I need to solve these problems to pass my car test at the second attempt.

your cat might be on its last legs...and they cost a nice bit to replace, you might try getting a cat off a scrapped corolla and swap them out, that might help the emmisions.

On it's last legs? It's only a fraction above the norm. It's like 0.11% above. That's not to be confused with 11% or 1.1% even?

He said it might need an engine service, cleaning of the fuel etc but just check it just in case?

Also the car runs really, really well, and never breaks down or anything, and it's not like it's spewing fumes? I only found out because the NCT guy told me!!

theres products on the market that are supposed to clean the engiene and exhaust, "cata-clean" is one of them, there results are not outstanding but it might just be that little bit you need.

Yeah, I do have this fuel cleaning stuff. 10ml for every 10 litres of petrol isn't it? Haven't tried it yet mind you. Guess I will, but I might just get the emission test done anyway. It's just that it costs 70-80 quid just to be hooked up to the machine before anything is or isn't found!

Ok, so I've booked the car in for an emission test on tuesday 27th. Guy said that it's 1 of 3 things. Think he said a sensor of some sort, can't remember what the 2nd one was and then he said it could be the Catalytic Converter. He said we don't want it to be that!! i'm not getting any obviously bad smells from the car, nor is there very loud noise, although I would say that there is some noise? It's quiet but different. Anyway, this test is expensive to do, so lets hope it's a sensor which can merely be replaced and then I just get on with it!!

Well it was the cat. Cost 340 euros to replace! My car now, is like Triggers (only fools and horses) sweeping brush. I've had it for 3 years, the exact same car. Cahnged the gearbox, the clutch, the windscreen, the handbrake, the tyres, the gear linkage cable, the catalytic converter but it's the exact same car!
