Hi there - was really pleased to discover this forum now I've got my new (to me!) Aygo Sport MMT in a rather nice Ice Blue... :D

I'm loving the car so far and glad to see if everyone else's experience is anything to go by that this shouldn't wear off.

The only 'problem' I've had with it so far is that sometimes when trying to creep the car forward when parking in a tight spot and especially when reversing into my drive, it revs quite a lot when you've got your foot well down beyond the point on the acclerator where the car really should be moving (yet is doesn't...), and then it suddenly goes forwards/backwards rather faster than you want it to...!

Funny thing is sometimes it does this and sometimes it's fine. I know the car was garaged for a few months before it came to me - any other MMT drivers out there experienced this or know what might be causing it? It's due for its 1year service next week and I'm going to mention it to them but before Toyota try and fob me off with something just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Other than that all I can say is WHAT A GREAT LITTLE CAR - my family and friends are all sooo jealous! :D

Welcome to the site and good luck with the car!

Sorry - I can't help with the problem though as I don't have an MMT.

thanks for the welcome!

Anyone even without an MMT just perhaps with a bit more technical know-how than I have got any ideas? Wondered if it was just a bit jerky because it was all loosening up but it's done 4000 miles even if it has been in a garage for a while...! Very frustrating

Still getting envious looks every time I drive it though which is great...!! :D

I've never driven the MMT, but we have had two smarts with similar systems. The problem you are encountering is usually solved by adjusting the clutch which can be done at service time.

One thing to remember, which could have caused some of your problem, is not to use the accelerator to hold the car on hills, it burns the clutch out very quickly. Use the handbrake.

Nah I always go for the handbrake cos I don't want to wreck it because it's so (nearly...) perfect! Can't vouch for the guy who had it before me though who was 92 years old and pootling around in an Aygo Sport!! Bit frightening - so much for the youth market Toyota wanted...!

Pleased to hear it sounds like a fairly easy fix anyway - if anyone else has any thoughts please let me know. That way I can reverse into that bay like normal without fear of clipping that BMW beside me - or, much more importantly, hurting my poor little Aygo who is much lovelier in my eyes! :D

I test drove the mmt and didn't like it for what i think is your problem. Not particularly jolting but because when you floor the accelarator I could smell a bit of clutch every so often.

I don't seem to get that ordinarily at all when moving off - I think the mmt is (so far...!) actually pretty underated.

I've still managed to have a lot of fun with it and don't find mine at all jerky in normal driving/moving off if you drive as they told me when I test drove one a few weeks ago (a new Yaris which didn't have the particular problem I'm experiencing :( ) - admittedly it's not quite as smooth as a CVT but I don't think it ever exactly claimed to be, and I like the 'extra control' option the manual side gives. Overall it's good for general easy and more importantly green urban driving - 'green-ness' is one of the big reasons I went for the Aygo - I think it just depends on what you were most hoping to get out of it.

Having said that I'm going to be cross if they don't solve the issue when parking - it's going in for the service later today though so we'll see what happens, just hoping there's nothing too wrong with it because like so many other people I'm growing quite attached to it already! :( Thanks everyone for your help - any more ideas would still be appreciated :)

I have a MMT and it seemed a little jerky when we first got it. Started off using the manual change a lot - never do now! Not as smooth as my other two automatics - a Camry and an A-Class but not bad for such a small engine.

One challenge for you is to see at how low a speed you can get it to change up to 5th! About 45 for me! Depends on your right foot. I find it changes very quickly and certainly is much better ay roundabouts than the Mercedes which hangs onto the high gears leaving one with no power in the middle of the road!

I know what you mean - I've been very pleased with the performance elsewhere, glad someone else is a fan! :D

It's getting quite regular though that it just refuses to budge even at 2000rpm ++ sometimes when normally it moves off well before that as it should - best way of putting it is it sounds like it's trying to reverse/go forwards uphill when it's on the flat...then yesterday it starts bleeping at me as a result after only 2/3 attempts of reversing it into the drive! Even tried to get friends/family to have a go to move it carefully and they experience it too :(

Irritating thing is like I said it can't be relied upon to do it and when it went in for the service Toyota said they hadn't had it happen on them but the particular dealership didn't have much experience with MMTs so they were going to ask around too!! In the meantime they're going to replace my sticky boot catch (predictable...) and the guy said they'd had so many people reporting those don't know if anyone's interested but they suspect there'll be a recall for it soon...!

So anyone else think it's a clutch issue or have any more ideas I can take to them as both of us seem in the dark?
