Im having a mare trying to do this! Unable to compress the piston far enough after I put the new pads in, is there a special technique/ tool neded for this? I really dont want to have to bleed the breaks.. :(

Clamp the flexi hose with a pair of mole grips.. release the bleed nipple, then push the piston back.. bleeding the breaks should be minimal work or not needed at all.

Guys, thanks for the quick replies! That makes sense now, that would explain the head shape of the piston. Do you need a special tool for this? How will I know they are set right once the new pads are in? :help:

From what I understand the pistons are threaded and with a bit of effort you can “screw” them back

As long as the handbrake mechanism is free and not seized you should be able to adjust it by pulling the handbrake on several times after replacing the pads.
