2002 Rear Wiper Problem

Hi,

I have a 2002 avensis, and the rear wiper has began to do strange things. firstly the wiper would not move on the squirt cycle - no big problem, just switch it on manually. But more sinisterly it has now stuck on intermittant, even with the switch in the off position. still works fine on the intermittant and continuous setting, for the time being.

was wondering if this was a common problem and if so is it a new switch i need (stalk i presume), or something else???

Sounds like water has got into the motor. I had the same problem to the point I had to disconnect the motor. It's definately not your stalk.

it was power washed for MOT the day before, so that would seem to be likely, and seems to have stopped today (so perhaps it has dried out a bit.), hope it stays stopped, otherwise it will be rainX and a dissconnection.

thanks for the info.

glad i'm not the only one. The recent rainfall resulted in my 2001 gs rear wiper not working, and then going intermitently even when switched off. It is also very slow, whcih i presume is not normal and assume it will need a new motor at some point, but hopefully not for a while.

Yeap that sounds like the exact problem. It will be intermitent at first, but will start to have a mind of it's own after some time. To be honest, I never used the rear wiper when it was working - it's not an MOT requirement, so it's better to just disconnect it.
