Hi,

I have used Chips Away to get rid of many stone chips towards the end of last year, but was told they can also get rid of small dents.

It does say this on there website also. (www.chipsaway.co.uk)

They come and do all the work at your location and found there prices to be quite good (you can get a free quote first).

Claire.

As well as the wonderful ChipsAway, there's these guys... Dent Devils

There should be one of each fairly near to you.

Good luck. I've got a trolley dent in my rear nearside door to sort out once I've dealt with the very large dent in my hatch.

I had a Dent Devils typre person take a dent out on my wheel arch, which some a**e did about a week after I got the car. :ffs: Can't tell there was ever anything there, and it was in quite an awkward place. They also did a tiny one that was in the door. I took it to a body shop, and it cost me £40 IIRC, because they called they Dent Devil guy to them, so there was no call out fee for me to pay.

I have just been to chips away and had them quote me £400, because some idiot hit my car whilst i was parked. So i have no idea who did it.

They took off paint and dented the rear bumper as well as the arch panel. :censor:

It looks tiny about the size of a fist, but CHips away said they would have to respray the whole rear bumper as well as taking out the dents. Making it a big job...

And they cant match the orange peel texture the T-sport has... and i have to get rid of my stone chip protector stickers.... :ffs:

Has anyone else come across this? I heard chips away were the cheapest and they said I wouldnt be able to find anyone cheaper. Does that sound about right guys? :help:

Anything where there are compound curves, can cost quite a lot. Not heard of ChipsAway charging prices like that but it does depend on the size and difficulty of each individual job, of course.

Get a quote from your local Toyota dealer and when you've got off the floor and fully recovered from the shock, you'll probably find ChipsAway cheaper.

Bear in mind though that Toyota will guarantee the work and probably be able to make it as good as new...

at a price.

If the work is extensive, it's also worth considering that your Toyota twelve year anti-perforation warranty is only valid if work is done by a Toyota approved source.

Cheers mate,

you've pretty much confirmed what i was thinking.

I havent heard of the twelve year anti-perforation warranty. Can you tell me more about that?

I'm guessing Toyota are gonna suggest replacing the damaged panels which could make prices shoot up. Cant believe such a small thing can cost so much to correct!

Sure. Well, as you'll know, each Toyota comes with a 3-year warranty against defective parts and construction (with some exceptions - parts that can go at any time through normal wear and tear, Wiper Blades, tyres, stuff like that).

Anyway, the car also comes with a 12-year body perforation warranty. That protects you if the the thing suddenly starts rusting or holes appear in the bodywork due, I imagine, to metallurgical problems.

Although most of us don't hold onto a car for anything like that period of time nowadays, it's nice to know the warranty is there.

Thing is, unless an approved Toyota repairer does any work on the body, that warranty goes out of the window. I realise that it's unlikely to ever be a problem but if you, for example, had a front wing replaced by a body shop and rust appeared somewhere in that vicinity, even if not on the wing itself, you've given Toyota a perfectly legitimate get-out clause.

It gets worse. You can also screw up that more likely to be used 3-year parts warranty. I'm getting a new hatch fitted next week (as you said the whole part rather than them trying to get a dent out!). Let's say I had it done by someone else and the rear wiper or gas struts played up later down the line. Toyota can again say that it was down to unapproved fitting and refuse (in law) to replace or repair those parts.

A ray of light is that if something at the back of the car is repaired by the biggest cowboys on the planet and your headlights start filling up with water, say, they've still got to fix that under warranty.

People often are very careful to maintain a full service history for when they sell their car but these sort of things are often overlooked. Guess you pays your money and you takes your choice.

edit: just to add, when I got in touch with my insuance company, they wanted to push me towards their own approved repairer. I told them I wanted Toyota to do it as it was only a two year old car and I'd like those warranties in place. They really didn't want to know at first and even tried to make me give them two independent quotes. I stuck to my guns and got my choice of Mr T to send in a quote. Insurance company caved in and I'm getting it done as I wanted.

They'd better do a great job after this! :P

Haha, thats sounds good, im sure Toyota will do a great job for you now.

Thanks for explaining all that.

I'm not going to claim through insurance though as it'll only add to my costs when it comes to renewing...
