Jap Vs Uk

Hi all, i'm new to this forum so any responces will be much appreciated.

I just sold my DC2 Integra Type R and i will be getting a ST205 in the very near future. I would really prefure a jap spec import as i'm sure their better maintained, i've also heard that they have a higher power output, 255 i think. Is this really true, as somewhere i heard it is due to the higher octane fuel they use in Japan, what are the differences between the UK an Jap spec, and is it worth the extra insurance premiums, (about £450 more i've been quoted).

Chers everyone.

Depends on who you speak to in all honesty.

What you pay extra in insurance you will get back in the cheaper price of the imports so there is swings and rounds about there.

Yes the higher octane is a factor but then i would also suggest that the old UK GT4's were made at a time prior to the 97/98/99 octane of today hence wont be mapped to use the better fuel.

In this case the Jap cars will give out more power as they have 100 octane out there.

The imports will have generally been looked after better in Japan as they have very strict car regulations and their MOT is really strict as well.

Hope that info helps you decide... im sure others will come on with more input. :)

p.s) I love the DC2 and have always wanted one...

In all honest I would say just get the best one you can afford/can find JDM or UK.

The power difference is purely down to different mapping/fuels, the ignition mapping is a bit more agressive on the JDM cars.

Quoted figures are 255BHP for JDM and 239BHP for UK if I recall correctly torque figures are the same, however both of those figures are just guides and different cars perform different i've seen Stock 205's at anywhere between 230 and 275.

My previous UK car put down 271BHP and 260LBFT in stock trim, and according to the print out from the previous owner of my current UK car in stock trim it made 259.9BHP

Between me and the misses we owned/own 3 UK St205's, and in all honesty we've never set out to get either JDM or UK cars it just happended that at the time of looking the best we've found in our price range where UK cars.

As for the difference mecanically the engines are identical as is the chasis and bodywork

UK has as standard:

Sunroof

AirCon

ABS

Headlight Washer Jets

Adjustable Headlight level

Adjustable dial brightness

WRC bonnet Spoiler

Driver Airbag (+ Passenger on 95/96 facelift cars)

mapped for lower 95 octane petrol (But as stated in manual can accomidate higher octane fuel)

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation - Emission control system)

All Steel Turbo

JDM

Climate Control as Standard

Sunroof - Optional

ABS - Optional

Airbags - Optional

No EGR system

Ceramic Turbo (Hot side I thinK??)

totally agree with SCETCHY on this, dont get caught-up with the `imports are better than uk`

just find the best NOT the cheapest car you can find, as buying a cheap-one will endup costing you!!

Well Mine was £4900 from another GT4OC member on a private sale basis, so you should ok to get a decent one privately might need to be a bit luckier to get a top condition one from a trader for that.

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...c=60058&hl=

As Mike said have a look round the OC theres normally a few for sale in there. However don't think that just because it's from an OC member it'll be great treat all sales trader or private with a buyer beware attitude.

I've seen quite a few come up for sale on the OC where someones bought a four without either doing research or even really looking into the condition of the car and then found 6 months down the line that they have some hefty repair bills and flog the car cheap because they can afford the repairs.
