Hi, was recently given a 89' toyota corolla 1.6 executive auto, is there any known issues or problems with these cars and is there any way of getting a bit more power from the engine ??

Also what are the specs for this engine

Cheers

Ayden

Hi Ayden. :)

This is a Corolla-No known issues or problems with these cars! B)

What power is your engine- 90h.p. or 105 h.p.? The engine is fast, but the auto gearbox makes the car a little sluggish .That's my opinion.

It has a 16v engine, so im not totally sure what power rating it is, even though it is an auto i find it alot quicker than the 1.8 cavaliers i have driven :D

your car has 93 bhp and 17 ftlbs.same bottom end as gti just the head and some internals different.

So if i wanted to get more BHP out of it what would i have to do ??, thanks :D

if you have the 4A-FE engine, which is most probable given what 4age said, then there really is very little 'off the shelf' products available for this engine, (i've got the same almost engine in my SR)

mostly your basics:

Air filter/Induction kit

Performance Exhaust

ECU/Super chip

i suppose it depends how big your wallet is, conversion to something better if normally advised there are various posts about which is the best one to go for.

oh and were about in portsmouh are you?

Ok, ive got some cavalier SRI fanblades now they fit, but the offset is ET49, and ive also been told i may need spigot rings as the centre hole is bigger than the toyota alloys, could someone shed any light on this ? cheers

Yeah don't worry about the difference in size. My current alloys were originally from a rover!, they have a slightly larger inside diameter too. Its too fit the drive shaft ends, which are slightly larger on the vauxhall and rover. The toyotas have unusually small diameter driveshafts, which is tedious as i'm trying to fit the original 14" alloys from the corolla onto my E21 BMW.

Hope this helps in some way.

nope the only thing you might notice is the wheels sit slightly further out than the previous ones. This is only a concern if the wheels stick out beyond the arches when at rest. I've heard that could be an MoT failure
