Leaking Sunroof (again)

Hi Everyone

Have a 2003 (53 plate) Rav 4 GX, which is currently dribbling water, I think from the sunroof. Water is leaking through the sunglasses holder, from where the headliner meets the top of the windscreen, and (if the inner sliding cover is open) from the two bolts at the front of the glass windscreen. Problem seems worse if it is parked nose down on a slope. Typically, the car is just out of warranty.

From the previous posts it may either be blocked sunroof drains or a faulty seal around the sunroof. Local Toyota garage wants to take the car for all of next week to strip out the headliner, dry out the car and then see what the problem is (at £63 per hour of course).

Before I part with large amounts of cash, I would like to check the drains. Can anyone tell me where both the front and rear sunroof drains exit please?

Many thanks

Jo

Hi,

I had a similar problem and found it to be the seal at the front of the glass leaking.

Inside the car, pull the seal away from the glass and check if it is wet and rusty.

If it is the seal, it comes complete with glass and can't be replaced seperatly (£300 for a new glass).

I was lucky enough to get a 2nd hand one for £100. Very easy to fit, just 4 bolts.

Got mine from here http://www.4x4breakers.net/enquiries.htm

Failing that, I believe that the sunroof drains exit somewhere inside the front wheel arch.

Cheers,

Ali

Hi

Thanks for your replies. Turned out that it is the sunroof seal that has gone, and the sunroof needs to be replaced. Fortunately, we bought the car from a Toyota dealership, with a used car warranty, and the warranty is covering the costs. Must say that the dealership here in Aberdeen has been very helpful.

Interestingly enough, the warranty company has not sent out an assessor to verify the problem ... would this suggest that leaking sunroof seals are being accepted as a known issue?

Regards

Jo
