Hi All,

This is my first post. I've got the 1.4 D4D aygo sport. I did a 0-60mph in 11.5 seconds with no engine mods and a full tank of fuel. Has anyone else had similar? I hear there's a tendency for car manufacturers to be less than honest about 0-60 times in order to keep insurance groups low

I'd also like to say how impressed i am with the economy of diesel Aygo, because I drove for over 2 hours at 90mph at the Top Gear airfield and still got 60mpg!!

You will find that boasting about illegal speeding on public roads is not acceptable on these forums

I would check that timing again. The spec sheet on the UK Toyota Web site has 16.8 seconds for going from 0 - 62.

Regardless of what the acceleration is I wish I could get me one of those diesel Aygos. Toyota might start offering the gas(petrol) version here in the States next year. If they offered the diesel I would buy it in a minute. I have become a very big diesel fan since I bought my Jetta TDI which I love but the quality of VW just does not hold up to Toyota.

I missed out a gear to do it. On the flat with the stopwatch on my wris******ch. I'll try again tonight, but instead mount my camera phone to record, so my hands are free for driving & i can check the timing later on. (Will also try and put it on U-Tube)

Excluding cosmetic differences, the Citroen C1 HDI is the same car as the D4D Aygo. Citroen say it's 15.6sec for 0-62mph against the Aygo's 16.8sec. Surely they can't both be correct?

There is an aftermarket plug-&-play diesel tuning box (for C1 HDI), which bumps up the 55BHP to around 68 bhp. I know the engine block can take this upgrade because it's the same one as used in 1.6 16v HDI variation. However, Mr T wanted to increase the life of the transmission, which is why we have the current 55 BHP.

I always use BP Ultimate Diesel, so it will be very interesting to see if it has any effect on the factory quoted BHP & Torque. I'm waiting for a quote to put it on a rolling road to actually see what power is coming out of it.

So a stopwatch on a wrist and the in car speedo. The speedo will probably be 3-4 mph out, not checked ours using GPS yet, so you need to be seeing 65 before you stop your watch.

Having driven a Fiesta with the same engine it's dog slow - not a patch on my A2 which had similar output.

The Fiesta 1.4 tdci (0-62mph in 14.4sec) is 1145 kg, whereas the aygo is only about 850kg. If you compare the figures, the Aygo has a higher power:weight & torque:weight ratios. I have the 5 door version, which is an additional 20kg

Last night, in the wet, (on a private road) with a passenger and I did a 14.10 sec. I have Sat Nav and when my speedo says 60, so does the GPS.

Will let you know when I get the chance to do a dry run on my own.

The topgear runway is Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey.

I think that it is so sad for him that he thinks he can edit his post but forgets that he is unable to edit mine which shows HIS original statement and MY opinion about his boast of illegal speeding on public roads which is still not acceptable on TOC forums and never will be.

So a passenger and a a bit of wet makes 3 secs difference. This implies your first reading of 11ish secs was garbage!

Ohh betty, do calm down. Looks like i'll have to get the link to U-tube on the forum sooner rather than later.

Wet reduces the friction available for a FWD vehicle, which is more important because the weight is moves to the rear under acceleration. Passenger adds up to 10% more mass to accelerate. In any case, what do the figures for the 1.4 tcdi fiesta imply? How can the Aygo have a slower 0-62mph than than the Fiesta with a lower power & torque to weight ratio? For the record fiesta is 59.4 BHP per ton Vs 64.7bhp per ton for the D4D Aygo.

Please don't assume that I care enough, about what people think, to feel the need to boast. My intention was only to flag up the incredible fuel economy. I don't recommend speeding on public roads unless there's a medical emergency or similar.

there has already been arguments about the 0-60 speed so lets not have another one. And topics like speeding really arnt appropriate here.

oh all of you stop winging and throwing your toys out the pram. If he wants to speed then let him.

I totally agree that it is up to him if he wants to speed.

I do, however object to anyone who comes on TOC forums with their first post and boasts that they "drove on the M4/M25 for over 2 hours at 90mph"

Speed and reports/boasts on these forums should be confined to that achieved on the track, NOT ON PUBLIC ROADS.

Maybe he should attend the next TOC track day.....................that may give him something to boast about ......................................or not :)

I have nothing to prove except the time discrepancy with the manufacturers quoted 0-62mph

If you find reports of speeding so reprehensible, I suggest you stop writing about it

Like I said in my previous posts on this topic, it is entirely up to you if you wish to speed.(It is Your licence)

However it is NOT at all acceptable to come on the TOC public forum and claim/boast "I drove on the M4/M25 for over 2 hours at over 90mph".....................particularly with your first post.

If you read my first reply to your post I advised you politely that it was "not acceptable on these forums" and welcomed you as a new member.

My view on illegal speeding (and those of others on these forums) has not and will not change.

As for stopping writing about it (on a public forum).....................I will stop when you stop boasting about speeding on public roads
