Turbo's + My Car

Stupid question really but im hearing 2 different storys, would i be able to fit a turbo, a small one at that onto my 1600cc Carina E, or is it just a dream.

hey JMC .. yes, that is possible

now, I don't know whether there are differences between the engine you have and the one used where I'm from, but I guess not .. therefor yours would be af 4A-FE ?

several engines of that type is boosted by a CT20 turbo, and an example can be seen here http://asp.turbomotor.dk/bmt.asp?mode=show&ID=2

by 0,6 bar that engine is running 157 hp and have a torque of 193

I have knowledge of a similar engine, boosted to about 250 hp (it was sold with eledgedly 300+ hp, but the pistons couldn't take it) .. but then we are talking about a more serious replacing of engineparts ;-)

My point is .. it can be done and if you don't wanna push your luck, it can be done without a serious rebuild

Thanx for the info but can someone either translate the following website or tell me what i need and what i need to do to the engine, which is a 4-AFE, and also most important question how much?!?!?!

hey again ..

well, me being Danish I should be able to translate the site .. but the site do not describe thoroughly what was done in exactly this project and therefor I didn't ;)

It says that they put in new barrels (is that whats its called in english) and new pistonrings (from the image, I'd think new pistons too) They took 1,5mm of the pistons too lower compression. An intercooler is fittet on to it too, as you can see from the pictures before and after the engine is put in the car.

This is actually what is mentioned about the project, the bigger text in the buttom is a description from the owner of the car telling how its running after the turbo is installed.

Boosting with "only" 0,6 bar I don't think that a specific management system is installed in this car.

I know, that a turboconversion here ind Denmark cost roughly 1.300£ with a management system if it doesn't have to be fancy ;)
