Info On Starlet Sportiff

hi can anyone help with general info on this car ,i am thinking about buying one ,its a 1998 1.3 with 58,000 miles but no service records ,what do i have to look out for ,any pit falls ,timing chain etc ,also how much would it be worth ,the mot and tax are due to run out aswell ,there is some rust on the doors ,can parts still be got for these cars

I'd really think about walking away from that one.

no history for a start would make me walk away. and the tax & MOT - when it comes time for it you could spend a small fortune fixing it.

parts seem to be fairly easy to find - but i'm sure one of the Starlet owners will be along at some point to answer your questions better

It'll be due a timing belt at 60,000 miles. Get ready for an expensive job.

Apart from that just check the normal things, brakes, suspension, tyres.

Signs of abuse etc.... check coolant and oil for colour..

Starlets like all toyotas are renound for brilliantly bulletproof motors.

as has been mentioned the timing belt is due, it is not a massive job though as one of the camshafts is worm driven, meaning it's not a difficult to time up as other twin cam engines.

check for the usual signs, smoke on over-run, mayo under the oil filler cap, sludgy water etc.
