Can You Connect A Amp + Sub To The Original Yaris Stereo?

Yes but dont :P You would use highlevel to low level convertor (It takes the amplified speaker outputs from the Original Yaris Stereo and makes them into low Voltage RCA's). Not worth it though as you loose quality and the cars existing stereo will not provide enough power for the front Speakers so you end up with a system with poor volume/quality fronts with overpoweringly loud bass in poorish quality! Just get a new HeadUnit mate

I agree, i've been playing around with this for a while by using a high to low converter etc and things but you are almost guarenteed to get huge amounts of altenator whine through the bass channels as well as the highs which are anoying and will be there everytime the engine runs, even with the stereo off.

If you want any advice on doing it i should have a final "best of the worst" methods of connecting everything together once i finish playing with it all, but i wouldn't suggest it.

Btw. only doing this to test out the theory of removing altenator whine untill i get my carputer working, but i wouldn't suggest anyone else trying it as its a nightmare! And may cause you to burn holes in your carpets like i did DOH!

the power output on the headunit that the yaris comes with is far weaker than the sub/amp ect that you wish 2 install, so it wont match like a aftermarket unit would, can be done it just aint worth the hasle for poor results.

yeh was looking into this ages ago, but as every 1 says sounds crap, i can see why your wanting to do it tho as the panels to replace the HU (properly) cost £££

I thought you would have had that in by now Brad :P ;)

LOL

i've had it in........ then out.......... then in and out a few more times. lol. Managed to nearly blow the amp up once, wired the two positives together once, its all very stupid lol but i think i have cracked it, i just need to re wire my switch and it should be fine.

Also started on the rear interior panels to fit the 6x9's in, looking good but think i need some more reinforcment at the panels do bend a little lol.

BTW someone gave me a turbo...... and its pay day soon........ HUM WHAT TO DO....

I disagree.

Iv got standard headunit with the following running off it:

JBL 600w Amp

JBL 1000w Sub

JBL 300w 6x9's

(All Speakers and sub run from amp which is on a high-low converter)

Kenwood 100w under-seat sub.

Creative 20gb MP3 Player

Panasonic 150w Door Speakers

JBL 40w Dash Speakers

Iv had no problems at all with mine. There's no interference, no over-powering bass, no loss of quality at the front, and well balanced volume. Yes, admittedly it will sound better and go louder with an aftermarket Head-Unit, but then any old thief can see you've got kit in the car, whereas standard headunit looks like there's nothing in there.

The trick is not to just whack a head unit in, plug it all in and press play thinking you've got better sound. The soultion to a problem come's from setting it up correctly. Iv seen this so many times with people simply not setting up equipment properly. (how many bars/pubs/clubs sound dreadful? A lot! They're not set up correctly) As long as you use the adjustments available on the amp and headunit and make sure the levels and filters are set correctly then it can (and in my case does) sound excellent.

More expensive kit and kit better designed will always sound better, for example my JBL's are crap compared to a set of Focal's but I payed £100 for 6x9's, sub and amp, not £250 just for speakers. It's making the best of what you've got that produces proper results, not blowing £1000's on equipment that gives you a sound you can acheive yourself with a little effort.

At the end of the day, the acoustics of the Yaris aren't great (Short and tall with hard plastic surfaces are terrible for acoustics) so you're limited to the amount of 'headroom' you can create with any equipment.

Personally, if I had the money and time to re-do my audio set up then the best soultion would be the same amp and sub, but with focal components up-front and coaxials in the parcel shelf. That would sound the dogs danglies. However, if im honest, id also buy a new headunit, the adjustablity afforded by most (by most I mean Alpine, Clarion, Blaupunkt) is worth the extra hassle.

(Iv just realised that iv typed all that to say you don't need a new headunit, then blown it all by saying it's the best solution! See, this is what happens when you get the day off... everything goes topsy-turvy!)

Thank you for the advices... I think that I will replace the original Speakers first. Maybe Infinitys 4" and 6.5".

BTW: is it hard to replace the original speaker cables to thicker (better) ones?
