Lightened Crankshaft Pulley

Is it true like a lot of people say and what can be read about these products for our cars?

"It will cause Engine Response Improvement and Acceleration Response

Potential rise is actualized from the medium speed to high speed."

"This reduction is equal to removing more than 100 lbs of vehicle weight!"

"Throttle response, horsepower and torque are all increased with this easy to install product!"

"This pulley saves almost 4 pounds over the stock unit. Since the pulley is kept the same diameter as stock, less rotating mass equals faster throttle response, increase in horsepower, and torque. With this pulley on your Yaris, you will see gains of up to 9 wheel horsepower as tested."

And could this be true???

What's the difference between dampened and non dampened pulleys? Does the TS react well to these pulleys?

I hear the pulley gives greater throttle response and acts like 50 kg has been taken out of your car!

doesn't increase power or torque.

It doesn't? That's not what I've been reading... Most people say that it does give better throttle response and increases acceleration, maybe some power and torque?

Lightened pulls reduce the rotational ineria of the engine so allow it to rev up and down quicker with less power required.

it won't increase the power or torque but it will reduce the amont of power required by the engine to increase rpm so it will have a similar effect to increasing the power.

the same can be said for lightened flywheels etc, all reduce the rotational inertia of the engine which means better throttle response and quicker acceleration.

it will however prob reduce engine braking etc.

hope that helps.

(can't think of a whitty way to ecplain it better lol)

Also people will think it is producing more bhp and torque if they get a rolling road as it will show more hp and torque at the wheels so they will scale back up (assuming they are rubbish and dont take into account this mod) which would give the same bhp (if they scale on the same factor as without this mod) So yeah more at the wheels so is an increase in useable hp and torque from the same amount the engine creates :)

be awarae that fiting an undampend pulley in place of a dampend one can cause nasty harmoinc vibrations that can break the crank.now it may well be fine but unless i was having the whole bottom end dynamic balanced i wouldnt risk it. toyota put a dampened pulley on there for a reason.

just my 2c's

Many people mainly have had rather positive feedback and opinions on this particular mod for the Yaris though.

Are all aftermarket pulley's undampened?

Perrin would probably be the better one to get, I'm sure it says it's dampened on theire website. You could ask Kevin before you fit yours.

So many people have these here surely someone will know.

Yes, but it offloads power that is used to drive accesories (heater, air con etc etc) back to the engine, as mentioned above.

But its not the same as a flywheel.

Its a crank pulley. But beware a few have had them come off, they have caused problems in some other cars. I had one in mine and no problems, i only had it for a few week, but i had a manifold, decat, filter as well.

Dont expect magical increases on its own. I had a perrin one from envy.

Asked Kevin about the pulley, I'm getting the Perrin one as well, he said its dampened and does't know of any problems that this might cause to the Yaris. He has sold a lot of these over the years with no negative feedback whatsoever, and has one on is Yaris as well! He has also heard and read about all the stuff on the net about pulley's, and just doesn't seem to know why many people mention all the negative sides when most of it is untrue, especially in the case of the Yaris...
