Are you using those 12 points sockets? Those sockets easily "rounds" the heads....

Try using a decent 6 points sockets with the correct size, it should work better.

Maybe it's a different batch of Yaris?? Or (if it's 2nd hand) the last owner changed them??

So far all the Yaris I have seen, the front seat mounting bolts have standard 6 point bolt head....

Any chance I could see a pic of the bolts in your car?

They are held in with Torque screws.. very stubborn to get off... I remember trying to help Mr Alan B with his at JAE last year, they were a right Alab B'stard to get loose.... you will need a good strong torque bit, plenty of elbow greece, followed by a pint for when you eventually get them out.

No Davy, you need brute force and ignorance...

rickster, before you go any further, go to your nearest Mr T and order up 10 (I assume you'll want to take out the rear seat too) seat bolts for a JAPANESE Yaris.

This is NOT a five minute job...

After much testing we believe that there is a specific Toyota tool for removing the Torx bolts as I couldn't find a head that would fit sufficiently snugly.

I ended up taking the car to my Dad's workshop and getting help from a couple of his fitters. Basically, it involved a long steel chisel and a big hammer. The bolts were loosened by placing the chisel in one side of the slot and giving it a hard rap with a hammer to break the "seal" and gt them to move the first mm. Once that's done you need a pair of mole grips and you have to grip the heads of the bolts REALLY tightly, turn the bolt as far as you can (about an eighth of a turn to start with) release the mole grips, re-attach them and then turn again. Some will be easy and only take a couple of minutes before they can be unscrewed with your fingers. Others (particularly the ones that go horizontally through the transmission tunnel) will be absolute sods.

Once you're finished you'll end up with a collection a bit like this...

Whatever you do, don't put the mangled bolts back in. They're the only 4 bits of steel holding you inthe car in the event of an accident...

Enjoy!

Nope... Unless you go and try to buy the right tool from Mr T.

Tidying the garage and found the baggy the bolts came in. Part number seems to be 90119-10349.

As I said, g'luck ;)

Thanks for such a detailed write up Alan!

So perhaps the previous owner of my Yaris already did what you said.... hence the standard Hex head Bolt.... :yahoo:

you need a torx set.

but i would suggest you get a torx socket set. like these (although buy better quality)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10PC-3-8-DR-TORX-STA...1QQcmdZViewItem

They come off really easily if you have the correct tools, but they are a funny size TX45 if I remember correctly.

Incidentally don't get confused with a spline set. they look similar but have a different pattern.

May be worth taking the extra time to do with seats in tbh! Spesh if you got someone with small hands to help! Also not too bad as can remove the underseat tray and slide seat back and forth?
