Hello, after a long day stripping the engine down to replace the headgasket , the head is now back on and the bolts torqued up so tommorow is wire it back up etc.. and timing belt.

Now have only bought a new timing belt as all the timing belt stuff was replaced recently, just wanted to be safe as poss and put a new timing belt on, anyways the tensioner is causing me problems. There is a cast unit which bolts to the engine with a spring loaded tip which i assume tensions the timing belt. How do you get the spring loaded mechanisim back into its cast Shell, there seems to be a little hole were a release pin might have been , but the mechanisim doesnt seem to want to go back, any ideas on this. I am very un easy about simply doingnothing about it and something goes wrong casuing timeing out and tears..

Sorry for the vague description, cheers rob

Well on the 205 there's a bolt you heave on to push the rod back in the tensioner.

However looking Here(Clicky)

It would appear on the 185 you have to remove the tensioner assembly and use a press to push the rod back in...

I'm sure dak can confirm though.

Aye the part is the Hydraulic tensioner, gonna have a go at pressing it back in and replacing the pin, the tensioner seems very hard to push back in, was alittle worried about it as it controls the slack on the belt.

put it in a vise and push it back very slowly and then put a split pin in the hole refit it and then pull the pin out job done
