hi. i scoured the net to try and find out why my avensis keyfob stopped working, and i come across this forum with loads of ppl with the same problem.

time and time again i saw the same question and no one got a propper answer for some reason.

so i went on a hunt for the answer and came up with one... eBay...so i purchased a keyfob re-programming email but it didnt work, so i contacted the ebayer and he said it must be my car/keyfob and offered me no re-fund.

so i searched again and came up with another answer, and it was on this forum and it worked a treat!

and here`s both types for everyone to try for free...

TOYOTA

STEP 1. THE VEHILE SHOULD BE IN THE FOLLOWING CONDITION

A. THE KEY IS NOT INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION

B. THE DRIVER’S DOOR IS OPEN

C. THE DRIVERS DOOR IS UNLOCKED

STEP 2. INSERT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH, THEN PULL IT OUT

STEP 3. PRESS THE MASTER DOOR LOCK SWITCH 5 TIMES FROM LOCK TO UNLOCK

STEP 4. CLOSE THE DRIVERS DOOR THEN OPEN IT

STEP 5. REPEAT STEP 3

STEP 6. NOW SELECT THE MODE BY INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH AND TURNING IT TO THE “RUN” OR “ON” POSITION. THE PROGRAMMING MODE IS DETERMINED BY THE AMOUNT OF TIMES YOU GO FROM “KEY OFF” TO THE “KEY ON” POSITION AND BACK BEFORE PULLING THE KEY OUT.

1. TIME IS “ADD” MODE. THIS IS USED ONLY ON SOME MODELS & IT ALLOWS YOU TO ADD A REMOTE TO THE ALREADY EXISTING REMOTES. THE ECU CONFIRMS THIS BY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY AFTER YOU REMOVE THE KEY.

2. TIMES IS THE SECOND MODE WHICH WILL ERASE ALL PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED REMOTES AND ALLOW YOU TO PROGRAM NEW ONES. THE ECU CONFIRMS THIS BY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS TWICE AFTER YOU REMOVE THE KEY.

3. TIMES IS THE THIRD MODE WHICH TELLS YOU HOW MANY REMOTES ARE ALREADY PROGRAMMED TO THE ECU. IT CONFIRMS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS THE AMOUNT OF TIMES APPLICABLE TO THE REMOTES CODED. IF NO REMOTES ARE PROGRAMMED THEN THE ECU LOCKS AND UNLOCKS THE DOOR 5 TIMES. THE ECU WILL HOLD UPTO 4 REMOTES AT ANY ONE TIME.

STEP 7. PRESS THE LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTONS ON THE REMOTE SIMUTANEOUSLY FOR 1.5 SECONDS THEN PRESS EITHER BUTTON BY ITSELF FOR 1.5 SECONDS

STEP 8. THE ECU WILL PERFORM THE LOCK/UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY TO CONFIRM THAT THE 1ST REMOTE IS STORED. REPEAT STEP 7 IMMEDIATELY WITH ANOTHER REMOTE & CONTINUE UNTIL ALL REMOTES ARE REGISTERED.

STEP 9. SHUT THE DRIVERS DOOR AND TRY ALL REMOTES

Hi, you don't need one with buttons on just to program another key to start the car, when you get the other key first program it to the car using the first two methods then use the remaining methods to program the remote functions and thats it.

*******************************************************************

and this is the method that worked for me

*******************************************************************

Open driver's door and insert programmed black key into ignition. Close door.

1). Within 15 seconds

Switch ignition on and off 4 times.

Switch ignition on.

Open and close the driver's door.

2). Within 20 seconds

Open and close driver's door 5 times.

Remove key from ignition.

3). Within 10 seconds

Insert black key to be programmed into ignition.

Switch on and leave for 1 minute.

Remove key.

Repeat step 3 for further keys.

To exit programming open and close the driver's door.

If your key is grey in colour then it can't be used to program additional keys."

But you also need to re-program the remote for the alarm/central locking, and the solution given by Pat in another thread doesn't work. I finally found out how to do it from Jean Nygaard at Toyota Denmark:

"1. Start: Driver's door open and unlocked. Key not inserted in the ignition.

2. Insert programmed black key in ignition and then remove it, without turning it.

3. Do the following with the driver's door: shut, open, shut, open, all within 40 secs.

4. Insert key in ignition and then remove it, without turning it.

5. Repeat step 3.

6. Close driver's door.

7. Insert key in ignition

8. Turn key from Lock to On and back to Lock with a 1 second interval. The number of times you do this will select the desired programming mode: Once for ADD key, twice for REWRITE all keys, 3 times for CONFIRMATION, 5 times for PROHIBITION.

9. Remove key from ignition.

10. As verification of mode selection (except in Confirmation mode), the electric door locks will lock and unlock a number of times corresponding to the mode chosen in step 8.

(If Confirmation mode is selected, the doors will lock/unlock a number of times corresponding to the number of remote controls programmed into the system.)

11. For ADD and REWRITE modes: within 25 seconds after the locks have confirmed the selected mode:

(11a) Hold down the LOCK button on the new remote control whilst at the same time pressing UNLOCK 5 times. (11b) Release and press LOCK once. (11c) if the procedure has been performed correctly, the door locks will go from lock to unlock. If not, start from 1 again.

(11d) To enter additional remotes, repeat from step (11a).

12. Open driver's door to complete the procedure."

*************************************************************

hope it works for you.......let me know if it does

thanks
