Hello,

My 94 model Lucida's speedometer has stopped recording mileage. Needle is working fine and showing correct speed.

I understand that speedo in Lucida's are electronically controlled. I wonder if any fuse or relay is problematic that is causing this problem? if yes, where should I look?

Is it possible to trace the speedo wires and check them (continuity etc.) without opening the dash board? if yes how?

Last, is a faulty meter part of MOT?

Thanks for help.

Probably got damaged when it was clocked, but it will be dash board out.

I had this. The Speedo is electronic but to clock it takes a mechanical change which needs care- which was not taken over my Speedo in Japan when it was clocked. I bought another Speedo to practice on. I had two challenges- 1) learning how to take the cogs on the milometer apart and put them together again perfectly, took care and application and 2) refitting the Speedo needle so it was properly adjusted, the spring needed to be tensioned so it started to register speed correctly at 0-10 mph- I found the best way was to fit the Speedo without the clear plastic front and drive down a quiet country lane until I had stopped often enough to adjust it correctly! To be honest msu, if taking the dash apart (which is dead easy compared to the other work) worries you, judging by my experience, you are probably best not to fiddle with this- chances are you will not be able to refit the Speedo needle, and that definitely IS an MOT failure!
