Poor Starting When The Engine Is Warm

Dear all,

This is my first post on the TOC forum, my girlfriend owns a Yaris 1ltr vvt-i. She is currently suffering from a starting problem. When the engine is cold she turns over without a problem, and runs fine. However, when the car has been run for a while and has warmed up and is then shut down and then started again the car really struggles to turn over as thou the starter moter is struggling or there is a lack of fuel. The car has recently been servicd and had a new fuel filter and air filter fitted. Any advice would be greatly recieved as it is driving us both insane.

Regards,

mayeb the chokes sticking and flooding it? Is there a smell of petrol or increased fuel consumption?

Maybe the air filter isnt fitted right and its sucking in warm air from round the engine? Is the airbox closed properly and is the cold air feed pipe fitted?

I'll have to wait until; the weekend to check those as the car has gone down to sommerset for the week.

I did initially think that it could be the choke before it went to the service, so it good to see I may have been on the right lines.

hi,don't know exactly the problem you are experiencing, but it may be worth you having the compressions checked.in my experience I have found exhaust valves to burn out on some yaris engines.hope this helps .

just to let you know there isnt a choke its fuel injection !!i would certainly have a check around make sure any vacuum pipes or air sensors haven,t been left disconnected.

Dude, whilst it is true that newer cars dont have maual chokes that you pull out they still have an automatic choke where more petrol is put into the engine when its cold automatically.

Checking vacuum pipes and sensors wouldnt be a bad idea.

Have you checked your spark plugs?

Those wereapparently changed out when the service was performed...i will admit it wasn't taken to a toyota dealer for the service but she trusts the guy who did it.

dude modern cars DO NOT have manual or automatic chokes they have cold start injectors or injector duration is extended to give more fuel dependant on the reading it gets from the coolant sensor as to how cold the coolant is .

Did the problem exist before the service?

I'm with im.

I would suggest taaking a look at the plugs firstly.

Check they have a decent spark - should be a bright blue spark. If it's pink, chuck it in the bin and get a new one.

On older cars, it'd be the dispack/ leads, but these modern cars confuse me... :D
