Whether To Buy A Rav4?

Hello people, I've currently got an X reg Avensis which is very sound and reliable but a bit lacking in the fun department. I used to own a Shogun 3.0 v6 which was great fun to drive but cost an arm and a leg to run. So am now looking at a Rav4 1st generation and have a few questions -

Mostly in town driving what sort of mpg can I realistically expect?

Anyone know if the Rav4 is included in the governments "its a 4x4 so over-tax it, treble the parking charges" etc etc?

Thanks for any advice.

Any sandle wearing tree hugging hippe/goverment will see the RAV as an evil 4x4....but they are as about polluting as a mondeo driver....:angry:

I would imagine between about 28 - 34 mpg but I might be mistaken or proven wrong.......:unsure:

Hi there

I get around 26 to 28 mpg for town driving - a lot of these are short trips though. Can get around 33 to 34 mpg for longer trips.

This is for a 2003 2.0 litre petrol model.

Thanks for the replies - looks like mpg isn't too bad. Only got about 15mpg with the Shogun, and only getting 30-ish with the Avensis.

I`ve had a Mk1 `97 Stax 5 door for just over a year now.The mpg has worked out at 26 in the winter & 28 in the summer. That is on a nine mile run to work, longer journeys improve by a couple of mpg.

If you decide to go for a Mk1 let me know as I may be selling mine in the very near future. :D
