Fitting Speakers In Boot Shelf?

Hi there, I have a P1 Yaris and I'm looking to upgrade the sound system.

At the moment I'm using the stock system with casette player. I'm playing an MP3 player through a casette adaptor - not ideal at all, loads of background noise and just running it through the front two speaker sounds very thin.

I just picked up a set of two Kenwood 6x9s cheap (peak 24 OW), and I'd like to install them in the back shelf of my car. I have very little money right now being a poor student, so can I just hardwire these straight into the current system? Or would I have to buy an amp to power them?

Thanks for any help.

Dave

yes its possible to hardwire them, toyota sell a wiring harness known as a green loom, although you could ''hack'' into the wiring using blade connectors yourself, although i would recomend getting an amp, as the output out of the standard headunit is very low, an amp can be connected to the standard HU using a speaker to phono adapter, but to be honest mate your best bet is to buy an entry level kenwood or the likes HU and use the output

Hey there, if your wanting to put 6x9's in the parcel shelf would you consider swapping your parcel shelf for one with the holes already cut out? i'm after an untouched jap rear parcel shelf.

Cheers

Brad =)

Rickster - Thanks, I'll bear that in mind.

Brad - Unfortunatly I don't actually currently have a back shelf because the last owner snapped it! But I'm looking into a replacement. I'll keep you in mind if you're trying to get rid of it?

Nrgizerbunny - Cool, I'll look into that, does it include the Speakers though, because I don't need more Speakers! Also where can I find this kit?

I've done two splice jobs ....... and was happy with the quality :thumbsup:

If you don't want to spend any wonga this is the best way to do it ;)

Very simple to do aswell as it's the plug with four wires on that you need to splice

dave if you do it the way you do, you'll end up with half the impedence. half impedence equals double the current and a fast route to blowing your amplifier circuits in the radio.

When you splice, you need to get it so its in series. This doubles the impedence so it will be quieter but won't blow the system.

And you're right the toyota Speakers are crap.

Or just cut the wires and don't use the door or dash speaker and wire rear speakers in instead.

Brad =)

Thanks for all the help guys.

Brad, that's not a bad idea. Am I right in right in saying there shouldn't be any impedance issues if I do that?

Sorry I'm a total n00b when it comes to this stuff!
